5 and 5

If you would have told me at 0-4 we would be 5 - 5 and beat the Falcons who were undefeated, I would have laughed.

Great game and great effort from this team! Vitt's return has brought a swagger back to the team!!!!!!

the raiders had an 80 yard drive that ended with harper getting a pick in the endzone, let them have all that yardage if that is the ending outcome

Think about it KC and Carolina are no better than the Raiders, we should be 7-3 right now. Now look back at the hapless Skins game and it does make you wonder. But great game today keeps that Black and Gold flowing through my veins.

Oh, I was being VERY sarcastic in my comment. I figured I would beat the doubters to the punch.

Getting to .500 and possibly a winning season...I'd be happy with that scenario. Not satisfied, but after what we have been through, a winning season would be a major accomplishment. Any other team would have folded by now.

We really should be better than that. The only team that really horse whipped us was Denver. I truly believe if the regular refs were in at the beginning of the season we would only have 1 or two losses. Assuming we took care of KC and Car.

So are the Saints in control of their playoff destiny?

In other words, if the Saints run the table and finish 11-5, will we make the play-offs, or will we still need a team or two to lose some games down the stretch?

Still need Green Bay to lose 2 games for 5th seed and Seattle has to lose 1 for 6th seed I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

If you continue to focus on how many yards they give up, you will drive yourself crazy. Try this instead. The number of points given up in games which in the beginning what 28 + pts a clip over the first four. Has gone down in every game except for the Denver game, and now is down to 17 pts...... Do you really think you can beat this offense down the stretch if all the d gives up is 17 pts per game.

Re: 5 and 5

Yards are meaningless if points don't back it up.

Defense is playing faster, tackling better and making some key short yardage stops. Offense is as per usual.

On another note....Matt Ryan elite.....ahahahahahahahahha

Re: 5 and 5

Defense did a good job again today. Considering how many players we have injured, I'd have to say they really stepped up. I'm really concerned about Charles Brown. It seemed like our run game took a nose dive when he got hurt. We're down to our 3rd string RT unless we can get either Strief or Brown back.

Todays ' game was televised on a local station here in the Houston area.
Today was Super Bowl Sunday , for Little League that is, and I missed todays' Saints game.
My niece is a Little League cheerleader and I had to go to Super Bowl Sunday .

Saints,s 5-5 , PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they make to 8-8, PREFECT.
9-7 for end of the year, so much the better.
It has been a hard year for all of the years we all know.

5-5 right now with momentum for next week's game with Vitt back with Vilam back with many other positive things, FINE!!!!!!

We will gladly take this 5-5 point right now.

Current chances:

6 out of 6 means > 99% chance of playoffs, probably #5 seed
5 out of 6 means 91% chance of playoffs, probably #6 seed
4 out of 6 only gives us a little better than 1 in 3 chance of making playoffs

Saints What If?

Re: 5 and 5

Ignoring the NFC East. We have head to head with the Cowboys and Giants and need to win both, but we only have to finish ahead of 1 of them because the other will win that division...

Schedules of those ahead of us:

Bears (7-2, 4-1 NFC) : @SF, MIN, SEA, @MIN, GB, @ARZ, @DET

Packers (7-3, 5-2 NFC) : @NYG, MIN, DET, @CHI, TEN, @MIN

49ers (6-2-1, 4-2-1 NFC) : CHI, @NO, @STL, MIA, @NE, @SEA, ARZ

Seahawks (6-4, 4-4 NFC) : @MIA, @CHI, ARZ, @BUF, SF, STL

Bucs (6-4, 3-4 NFC) : ATL, @DEN, PHI, @NO, STL, @ATL

Vikings (6-4, 4-3 NFC) : @CHI, @GB, CHI, @STL, @HOU, GB

Bucs & Vikings schedules are brutal.

We just need to beat out either the 2nd place NFC West team or the 2nd place NFC North team...

Red Zone defense is what is really paying off on that defense.

I guess its because its hard to get burned 40 yard down field when all you need to cover is about 10-15 yard zone.

I was thinking this exact thing yesterday. The Saints defense may suck for 80 yards of the field, but if the opposing team gets inside the 20, it's on lock down lately.

burningmetal 11-19-2012 03:55 AM

Re: 5 and 5

The defense really in truly does need to do a better job in between the 20's, but for now it's plenty good enough. If they bend this much against elite teams, they will break, however (for the record, I don't consider Atlanta elite, though it was still an admirable performance by the D, nonetheless). It's nothing schematic, it's just a matter of tackling better. We missed a butt load of tackles today, but would either get a turnover or would finally buckle down in the red zone. If they can consistently tackle and keep creating turnovers, we're going to be impossible to beat. That's a big if, but all signs are pointing in the right direction, at least.

There is a lot of heart on this team, that's for sure, and the leadership is definitely there ... I think that's what I like best about following this team,.

This is the 4th week in a row, the D gutted it out in the red zone, and
stopped at least one goal line series dead. I still dont think the O is 100% on track, and Brees himself would tell you so. You'll know they're on track, when theres a pressury 3rd down, and they nail it, like in the Texans game last year.

guts when it really matters. :)

I thought you were kinda down on Vitt after the Broncos game?!! Like it was gonna be more of the same as Kromer? It took a game for him to get up to speed, but ya have to admit, these days they are back to LOOKING LIKE the familiar Saints we're used to.

I've become convinced, that the defense giving up yards thing, I've decided this is just how we are rolling this year. It is what it is. But it seems to me like they've held on more 1st-and-goal stands this year than in the entire last few years put together.

Have some tuff games coming up and there will be the true test. They have climbed back into a possible run (with some help) and that is all we hoped for.

Re: 5 and 5

It does seem like when oposing teams get in the red zone something kicks in on our defense and I also will take that every day. I so want to sweep Atlanta and be the team that takes them out in the playoffs. PLAYOFFS! Oh yea and I like that call to give us 10 extra seconds to score. Some of those celebration and BS penalties were someones way of telling our guys you can't have a good time COME ON MAN. If it would have been a tight game those could have hurt.

TheKillerB's, I like your team spirit. There it is!!!
Thnx for the stats.

Atl Falcons some kind of way lucked out with a fairly easy schedule for the rest of the year.

All I know is Saints have to win the rest and take it week by week.
Ugly win is good.

Other than pride and improving the overall record, why is it huge? As much as I hate saying it, we have little chance of catching the Falcons. Head to head is the first tiebreak. So beating them all the second go round is more important for overall and head to head than division.

The Falcons have FAR from an easy schedule the rest of the year. They could easily lose four of those games.
