Brodrick Bunkley kicks Alex Boone in head; fine next?

Brodrick Bunkley kicks Alex Boone in head; fine next?

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley should be facing a hefty fine or a possible suspension from the NFL after he kicked San Francisco 49ers guard Alex Boone in the head Sunday.

Bunkley committed the penalty on a failed 49ers field-goal attempt late in San Francisco's stirring 31-21 win. The video above doesn't leave much room for interpretation. Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was suspended for stomping on an opponent last year in another high-profile, nationally televised game.

Bunkley isn't as well known as Suh, and he's not a repeat offender of the NFL's conduct policy. But this was exactly the type of behavior that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is trying to eliminate. We'd be surprised if the league doesn't come down hard on Bunkley.

I was thrilled as I could be to see this, not that it was right but looking at our D yesterday and the line up we had ,these boys look like most of them are starting to play with a mean streak, I love it, finally signs of life. Our front 4 looked good, was great against the run and got a respectable push, keep in mind the 9es O-line is made for ground and pound, so for the front 4 to shut their run down says alot, Lofton is someone to build a core around that can punish backs and TE's that hit the mid level. The secondary looked better than they have with their lineup, they gave up a few plays but overall did a pretty good job, overall they player well. NOW for the O, we quit running the ball and went straight to the pass, not good, the O-line got tired and the 9'ers didn't. I blame this on strenght and conditioning, our O had plenty of chances but come up short. I hate we lost, I always do but their is no reason at all to hang our head in a good game like that, it only shows where we need to get better at, I think Payton will correct it all when he comes back.

That wasn't a 'kick', that was more of a foot-slap ... fine him for unsportsmanlike conduct & move along, maybe give him a game-suspension for good measure, but I don't think it warrants more than that.

The team & the coaches can address his lack of self-control in the lockerroom.

Pure frustration by an immature player. He should be better than this and needs to be told that we as a team are. Can't happen again.

It's in the same league as Ingram pointing as he scored last week. First mistake is on you, there won't be a second.

I don't agree. In my book there is a big difference between taunting a guy and kicking him in the head, helmet or not.

Bunkley was so pizzed off. Hey, at least there's a fire in the defense.

Don't get me wrong, it was not acceptable. I don't think it was up there with Suh, just frustration.

At least it only looked more like a foot slap versus a drop kick. I don't think it warrants a suspension, but we shall see. It is already a given there will be a very stiff fine for him.

He was just frustrated. I have seen far worse things then that and we have bigger things to worry about anyway. Move on

You would have kicked him too if he had punched you in the nads.

As the commentator said. What he did was wrong, but we dont know what lead up to that.

This is a first offense and I have to believe he didn't just pimpfoot slap him for nothing.

Goodell's people are probably finding a way to link Bunkley to bountygate this week, even though Bunkley signed with the Saints in spring of 2012 :)

True, there's no telling why he did it. Maybe Boone spit on him, or dropped the N-word on him, or maybe called him a falcon fan.

It was the 49ers - can we give him a bonus?

Maybe the Suh groin kick would be more appropriate...

Looks like Boone was holding Smiths leg, and wouldn't let it go after the play. So, Bunkley reached down to pull his hands away, and Boone took a swipe at him, so Bunkley kicked his helmet.

All he was trying to do is make the guy let go of our guy 3minutes after the playand po bunkley got pissed when the 9er would nt let go. He looked like he took a punch to bunkley and the foot wedge is always a penaulty

I was waiting for the coveted Payton in his face, spit flying, juicy fruit spewing venom and beat down, but didn't see it. Payton would have taught that young man a valuable lesson, maybe the other guys did and I missed it, but geeeze,,,,,,,I sure miss Coach P!

Yeah it definitely looked like there was some mess going on before Bunk "kicked" him in the head. I say "kicked" because it wasn't like he was channeling Pele or anything, it wasn't even that hard of a kick. When Suh did his stomp thing, he put his HIP into it and was really stomping. Bunk looked like he was giving a kick that was saying "Let go and stop being a d*ck!" I did see the niner lineman take a swipe at him on the TV broadcast, so it was clearly retaliation, but that's what they always getcha for...

I hear a lot of people talking about sportsmanship or personal integrity and its pretty funny when you put it in forum context... Some people here have had the virtual kick in the nutz for nothing more than disagreeing.

Or being a Bama fan.
