Cut bait on Cie

When do we cut bait on the Cie Grant experiment. The guy simply can't stay on the field. I don't care how fast he is, his knees are shot. He's taking up a roster spot in my opinion.

Potential can take you only so far

I\'m a big Cie Grant fan and I was looking foward to seeing what the guy could do. So naturally I\'m diappointed with the injury !!

I haven\'t read anything that\'s \'credible\' that says his knees are \'shot\'. Where did you hear this? I have read where Haslett is concerned whether or not he will play this year. But, you never know about those kind of statements. He might be tying to send a message to Cie. He might think Cie should be coming back quicker from the injury than what he is. Just speculation. But, you never know...

As far as when to cut bait.... I leave that up to the medical staff and the coaches. They have much more to go on than I do.

It is troubling that he\'s been injured and really hasn\'t been able to get on the filed. Not a good sign.

Don\'t think I\'d cut loose a guy we just drafted in the third round last year, even before his 2nd season started. Imagine where we\'d be if we did that to all our draft picks.

I read somewhere it was inflammation of the patella tendon. Having had 4 knee operations myself, if that\'s the case, it\'s much to early to cut him. This guy has an enormous amount of potential, I wouldn\'t want to see him picked up by someone with a little patience. Would you cut Stallworth?

No. But there are many who post here that would have. I wonder how many of \'em will admit it?

There\'s a lack of patience by fans today. I blame it on video games. They just plug in players for \"instant\" success and \"cut\" the players they don\'t want. Works well in video games, I hear.

Then of course, you have fantasy football. I\'m scared of video football and fantasy football. Might brainwash me too. :P

Put down the video games and get a job!!!!!!! ;)

Are you one of those that blames video games for the violence in America?

Nah, I don\'t believe that **** !!! I prefer to blame the parents and maybe some overmedication being precribed by some doctor.

I actually grew up living in the arcades. I was the \"king.\" I played ESPN NFL 2K5 the other day. It\'s unbeleiveable how realsitc that game is. You\'ve got half time reports by Chris Berman, that are very accurate. Unbelievable stuff !!

I hardly ever play those games. But, they are fun !! Just joking around.

I really believe that Cie won\'t be the starter and the way it look\'s maybe not even number two, unless he can\'t get back into practice really soon. I know the guy is talented, but four surgeries and he is still experiencing problems, it makes you wonder what decision is the right one.

All I am saying is, in 2000 the average career of an nfl player was 3.2 years.

http://www.newhouse.com/archive/story1b102700.html

Cie had a minor knee issue in College... And now two in the Nfl in just two seasons. When I said \"his knees were shot\" I was referring to my memory of a story published by the Picayune last season, which discussed a condition in Cie\'s knee that wasn\'t debilitating... but caused pain. Pain that wouldn\'t go away with treatment, Cie would just have to play through it.
Since I can\'t find that article, I understand you will all have different opinions on Cie\'s knees.
All I am asking is, how many games will he sit out this year before you realize he can\'t make it physically?
He only played in 7 games last season... I can\'t remember him making an impact in any of them.
Then again 3 tackles is probably why.
All I read on this site is how weak our LB corps is... Yet, this guy skates.
I don\'t get it.

Oh yeah and,, If Donte had only three catches his first season.... Yes I\'d say he was a bust too.

Plus, Couldn\'t you leave everything up to the medical staff and coaches Billy?

Haslett says he has upside....well i hope so he was a third round pick. one more year of the knee problems and then cut him! Also wouldnt hurt if he added a couple of lbs

Billy - his knees are supposedly structurally sound, but apparently he will always play with pain. He is definitely injury prone at this point in his career.

That said, there\'s no way you dump him yet. I thought the talk of dumping Stallworth was nuts. He definitely needs to sack up this year, but you don\'t cut him. Same goes for Cie. He needs to get healthy but he\'s a long way from being cut.

Ya think? LMAO !!

I remember that talk. Can you imagine if we would have cut Donte\'? Just imagine if our defense had to face Donte\' !! That\'s a scary thought !! That kid has had some hamstring problem but the kid has heart.

I wouldn\'t want us to face a motivated Donte\' Stallworth. I wouldn\'t want to face him period!!

You know, now that I\'m thinking about it, I wouldn\'t want to face our offense !! It\'s a monster full of play-makers. Deuce, Brooks, Donte\', Pathon, Devery, Boo, Conwell, and the O-line.

Hopefully, it all comes together this year :exclam:

Most of you regulars know my philosophy but I think the best we can do with Cie is keep him as a bad-ass back-up, at two LB positions.

Let him continue to learn the MLB, to back up Watson and Ruff if necessary. He could easily slide over to the WLB as Rodgers primary back-up. It will prolong his career being an awesome back-up at two LB positions.

Somebody need a breather??? In comes Cie with his blazing speed and big hit ability.

He could probably play all 16 games as a solid back-up, and spot start if necessary.

He\'s a 3rd round pick. He\'s not costing us a fortune to keep him. Why cut him?
