Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

NFL Network's Mike Mayock says he is "scared to death" of Georgia LB Alec Ogletree as a first-round pick due both to off- and on-field concerns.

Ogletree is a candidate to slide out of the first round because his character is a nightmare. "I’m scared to death about Ogletree, both for on- and off-the-field issues," Mayock said. "When you put the tape on, he has no clue what he’s doing. He looks like a safety that somebody plugged inside at inside linebacker. He just runs around." Mayock also called Ogletree's work ethic and passion for the game "question marks right now."

Draft guru Mike Mayock said rookie Nick Foles “looks like a completely different guy from what I saw in the Senior Bowl a year ago.” Mayock had a fifth-round grade on Foles thanks to concerns about arm strength and footwork. The Eagles took him in the third round and he’s proceeded to post a 77.7 passer rating while throwing five touchdowns against four interceptions in six games.

“I think you can easily talk yourself into [believing you have] a franchise quarterback,” Mayock said. “But if I’m them, I wouldn’t be jumping up and down, saying, ‘I’ve got my guy.’ I’d be saying, ‘We may have a good young building block here. But we still have to figure that out.’” The next coach of the Eagles will have the final word on how much competition is brought in for Foles this offseason.

Not only did you have to listen to Mayock say he was wrong here, but if you watched the Thursday Night Game between the Bengals and the Eagles, you had to listen to Mike Mayock continuously praise Vontaze Burfict, who he darn near killed at the Draft with words. Mayock said he would not be in this league, and he was not a good prospect. Mayock had to erase those poor words from last draft, by talking up the young Arizona State product on the Thursday Night Game. You would have thought that Mayock was an advocate for Burfict, but that was not the case. That was a case of being “Wrong”. Some of these draftniks are great, but Mayock is still one of the best in the industry, even though he has been wrong as of late.

PS: Guess how many personal fouls Vontaze Burfict has in the NFL through week 16? NONE, YEP THAT’S RIGHT, A CHANGED MAN? OR A CRITICIZED MAN?

All I have heard out if Mayock for months is that nobody seems worthy of a top 20 pick.Somebody needs picked early and he just seems scared to put his cards on the table this year.

I'm just passing one what he's saying. I was for the most part, a Burfict fan. If you don't believe me, you could certainly search the forums. I really don't care for Mayock to tell you the truth. But with that said, it's exactly was I've said from the start with Ogletree. He's an OLB, not a ILB. We're looking for a pass rusher out there and he does not fit the bill... especially in our 3-4.

I like Ogletree... just not what he'll bring to our team. He's not that pass rusher I want outside. That's not saying he won't be a good pro... I think he will be. Just not for us.

I disagreed big time with Mayock rating McCoy over Suh the other draft. But if you look back, well, I'd have to agree with him. The man compared to a lot of other draft nicks, is pretty solid. Also while I don't want to knock Damond, you've got to consider the source. Just saying.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

Ogletree has speed to burn; and as a rookie he could come in with limited assignments as an OLB and be told go get the quarterback or cover this guy in the flat and he will be able to do it; he can learn the position and develop and have an impact immediately as a first rounder should...

...pick 15 is tricky because you will get a look at a Top 10 pick because the perennial bottom feeders usually overreach and some amazing talent comes through - the behavior of Ogletree concerns me, but it's that wildness that I think channeled correctly that this defense needs to spark it...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

I think back to one of those sayings that carries me through many hard times, "Blessed be ye who expect nothing for ye will seldom be disappointed." That's what I've been applying to our first rounders for years. In that light, the draft pick that worries me most is the one we waste on the Smokin' Badger. I called that one months ago. Mathieu could be the top talent in the draft, but who cares? He'll spend his NFL days on suspension. RG won't give him the 10+ chances Les did.

If it makes you guys feel any better, I find both those talking heads less than useless.

talking heads great band

i am back to hoping Cooper falls into our lap he would be the BPA hands down on my board. a steal at 15. Plus teams would be calling through out the first and well into the second to see if we can work deal for him. I like the safety net he provides

The way the FA OG are signing now in the top 15 it is looking more and more like that might happen.

David Byrne and company definitely had an interesting take on life -

And She Was and Take me to the river were important songs as an early twenty something in love in New England, summer - ahhh...

Now life is defintely Once in a Lifetime (How did I get here?)...

but Burning Down the House definitely is one of the great Football Stadium Songs...

But Hagan, think you're onto something with Cooper and saavy Saints brass ought to parlay some leverage over the Rams who are trying to build an uber-Offensive Line to deal with division rivals 49ers and S'hawks...

hmmm...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
