*****WELL... it's not quite over yet*****

Dallas won in OT, but a very WEIRD scenario has to play out for the Saints to make it into the postseason.

Well Redskins won... egh that kinda hurts us... and the Vikings also... butttt I agree there is always a chance just sucks when we need other teams to help us get in the playoffs...

I thinks it's time to put the pipe down or your spliff .... whatever works for you.

That eighth loss hurts us beyond realistic expectations.

Re: **NO HATERS, please** Saints still alive (...but barely)

Vikes have to lose-out...

'Skins need to lose-out...

Bears need to lose-out...

Cowboys MUST lose today; to us next week, then beat the 'Skins in the season finale

For those who think stranger things have NOT happened before...

Saints made the #6 seed in 1990 season (winning 4 of their last 6)

Saints MISSED the playoffs in the 2002 season (...having a 9-4 record, then losing last 3 to teams with losing records)

We might have a shot at 8-8 if we were in the AFC, but I don't think the NFC is gonna have an 8-8 wildcard team.

If the Cowboys beat the Steelers today, this is the path for the Saints:

Week 16:

Saints over Cowboys
Eagles over Redskins
Cardinals over Bears
Ravens over Giants
Texans over Vikings

Week 17:

Saints over Panthers
Lions over Bears
Packers over Vikings
Eagles over Giants
Redskins over Cowboys

Plus Rams lose 1 game to Bucs or Seahawks

In other words, the offseason begins when the highlighted games don't turn out right next week...

Not officially - see my scenario above.

We are eliminated from #5 with Seattle's win, but still have a snowball's chance at the #6.

We are still not officially eliminated regardless of Dallas' win today. See the excerpt below from this article Brees leads Saints over Bucs, 41-0 - Yahoo! Sports

The Saints will still be alive for a playoff berth when they kick off at Dallas next Sunday, but will have to finish in a multi-team tie at 8-8, which would require several other teams to lose their last two games. While the Bucs could finish 8-8, their conference record would be 5-7, dooming them to lose all possible tiebreakers.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we aren't making the playoffs, even if we are mathematically alive, its a huge longshot. That being said, I do want to see our team play well down the stretch. I want us to win out and and at least finish 8-8. I think defensively we're making progress and young players are stepping up. Win out and give Sean & co. something to build on for next year.

Re: **NO HATERS, please** Saints still alive (...but barely)

I'm not holding my breath. It is possible for the giants to lose out(ravens lost to broncos and at home again to try to clinch their division). But cards blew out lions, which means likely they'll be caught off guard by the bears. Vikings could lose to Houston but who knows, and would GB really help us out by sweeping vikes to get a bye?

Its all too complicated, we should have beat SF or not kick that fg on 4th and 1 against the giants. It was those games that hurt our season.

Re: **NO HATERS, please** Saints still alive (...but barely)

Well, being a Lions fan all my life and aware of the Saints history since entering the league, I'm pretty familiar with the drill.

If someone says there's a chance, then there's a chance and it ain't over until the last minute of the last game of the regular season.

Of course, I'm gonna' let someone else do my stressing for me and just enjoy the rest of the season without worrying about playoffs or winning it all ... and be pleasantly surprised if we do,.

TheOak 12-17-2012 06:23 AM

At this point..... And for the rest of the season, we have not EARNED a playoff spot.

Even if by .00005 we fall into a playoff spot, we didn't earn it, and we have not played well enough at any point in this season to give me reason to believe we have at least a 50/50 shot at winning a playoff game. Which would make us merely a stepping stone, a catapult if you will , for some other team.

So.... Why in the hell do you want to get into the playoffs? Glutton for punishment? You can't be a fan of the Saints because they will not make it to the post season?

Did somebody make you angry at work recently? Geez dude, if you wanna say there's no chance then say it. But why be so harsh on people who want to have something to talk about? And by the way, that is the aswer to your question of why do we want to make the playoffs. As long as we're mathematically alive, why not talk about it? The draft is a long way away.

I'm not saying it's realistic to think we'll make it. I personally declared the season over after last week. But it just so happens that we are still alive enough to have something to talk about.

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to make the playoffs, why do you say you've seen nothing to tell you we could win a game? We just won 41-0. We also beat the current top seed in the NFC, and if not for Drew gift wrapping the other game for Atlanta, we would have swept them. It's a Jekyll and Hyde team, but when we're on we can beat anyone.

Talk about anything you like... 20+ independent threads on the same topic with the same scenarios ......

I say that because 41-0 against Tampa bay is not consistently playing playoff worthy football on all 3 sides of the ball. Some teams do peak later in the end of the season... We are 1-3 for weeks 11-15. That is not playoff worthy football.

How many games this season have the offense, defense, and special teams all shown up to play in the same game? 1 at best.

Beating Tampa Bay 41-0 when they have the worst pass defense in the league scoring only 1 rushing TD doesnt tell me we can gointo a game against any of the projected playoff teams and be confident of a win... or confident all three sides of the ball will show up. We are not playing playoff foot ball now, nor have we all season.

Then there are those people who ADAMANTLY declare the season over, then come in the following week and declare we are still in. Which statement is true?

boy you got that right.

So we're still in mathematically? Wow!

Of course, mathematically Aunt Ruth is still waiting to grow that set of balls.
:jimmoraPlayoffs!?:

But you know, I WANT to still be at least mathematically in it, so we can just
root a little.... especially if its all the way down to the Panthers game. We've
ALWAYS been a longshot, guys. Thats the fun of "FAITH".

Now lets kick the Cowboys butts and enjoy the game. and also see who our players are going to be next year. GEAUX.

btw, a number of people lost their FAITH in the Dome yesterday and didnt show. It was still better attended than some games past, but I had more butt room in
my seat than usual, and didnt have to stand, unless I wanted to.

But overall we are still WhoDat Nation and you could see it in the streets of
New Orleans, in every store, on every vehicle--- We still have more craziness
in our place than another team down the road thats going to the playoffs. Not
dissing them, but thats just what I see.

Raise your hand if you still bought some Saints stuff recently. (mine) (Academy on clearview had a bunch of good stuff.)

Yeah, it is late , lesser team in TB, all that but, Saints won and got some momentum and it will carry to the next two must-win games to finish 8-8. They know they have too.

GOOD!!

8-8 for 2012 sounds good to me.

6-8 would tell anyone that we haven't played like a playoff team for the whole season. That's not what this is about. The point is if we have something to keep things at least a little interesting, why not talk about it. Unlike what you seem to think, we're not idiots. We're not going crazy saying this is definitely, or even probably going to happen. We know it would take a miracle. I felt the season was over after lastweek, and I still don't think we're gonna make it. I'm a realist, but I'm still a fan and I'll keep hoping.

I know how bad this team has looked at times, but you're flat out wrong when you say we couldn't beat any team in the playoffs. I already explained why, so I'm not going to repeat the same things to an eternal pessimist. If we somehow made it, then we'd be in whether you think we SHOULD be or not.

Did you think the 7-9 Seahawks were going to beat us? Neither did I, but it happened. We weren't exactly playing playoff football at the end of the '09 regular season, were we? But we were in, and we won the Superbowl. No, I'm not predicting a Superbowl this year, just trying to illustrate my point.

Slam bam! Thats the answer to all this!
It looked really good from my seat in the Terrace Sunday, I can tell you that... And there were times when you couldnt tell it wasnt 100% full--- as it got loud and crazy. We raised hell on TB's last possession, to try to save the shutout, as if the game was in the balance.
