Trade ______ for _________!!!!

Not everything that will make this team better will be had during free agency. Who would you trade to get better. What would you get in return?

Re: Trade ______ for _________!!!!

Sed Ellis for a hotdog, Will Smith for the chili for the hotdog, Vilma for a coke, not much trade value there is it but we do need players at those positions, it's going to depend on which direction Payton is going but Sproles has good stock, Jenkins has some value those 2 might get us what we need on the D, Harper( who I think the world of,but doesn't fit Spags, system) is worth his weight in gold to a team that plays a SS in tight and could net us a really good pick in the draft or trade for a player of = value on either side of the ball, I think Harper has the most value of all.

Re: Trade ______ for _________!!!!

Would it be better/easier to teach Harper how to catch a ball than trade him?

The guy drops so many interceptions that I doubt he could catch an STD in a Bangkok whorehouse!

He still has more picks than Jenkins, so Jenkins is even worse

Malcolm has 1 pick this season and Harper has two

By comparison Quddus has two picks in the last 2 weeks, we know who the better FS is

Do you guys actually think that the number of picks determines who the better safety is? Really?

Re: Trade ______ for _________!!!!

Agreed Danno. Picks alone don't make a guy like Quddus better. And 2 picks is nothing to call him a pro bowler. The guy is decent depth. Nothing impresses me that he could even start as a long term option. Mind you Jenkins and Harper have not played well either. We need to find a free safety who has ball skills/range/instincts....essentially a Darren Sharper. There aren't many of them and when you find them you keep them. Is there anyone in the draft of note?

Yes they do argue that point.

Roman Harper

QB/Safety/ Punt Returner for Pratt High School
4 years at University of Alabama
6 Years in the NFL

I would say he is just a little beyond the basics of ball catching.

Trade would be easier....

In a combined 10 years in the NFL Harper and Jenkins have a grand total of 10 interceptions... I wouldn't know where to hide after I stated one was better than the other based on that.

I think field play shows who is who and who is not. Quaddus starting the season, possibly 8-10 INT's thats not bad field play in my book and might cut down on some of the deep treats going over the middle also, I see him starting next year, he's getting his feet wet this year and is only getting better!!

Hmmm.

So what you are saying then is:
in the 1st instance, he needs to up hiis game
and
in the 2nd instance, he needs to up his game.

I am not up with my college safeties yet so forgive me. The only Free agent out there that embodies all that you speak of is Dashon Golston! If your gonna spend money, smart money spent is on him!!!

Re: Trade ______ for _________!!!!

As far as INTs go, Harper was robbed out of one in the earlier game against the Bucs. ;-)

I don't think safeties should be evaluated based on the amount of INTs they have, especially SSs. Nor do I think INTs are the determining factor when evaluating the play of CBs either, but they usually are momentum changing plays, and therefore, highly memorable to the fan and that is why their perceived value gets blown sky high.

But the bottom line is that the safeties have been missing far too many tackles this season, as have other positions as well, and that is just unacceptable. The half-assed tackle attempt Harper made against the Bucs' receiver early in last game, where he just collapsed at his feet trying to knock him down at the sideline, had me screaming at the TV. Those type of lapses in the fundamentals of the game are unacceptable no matter what you are being paid.
