Drew Brees has no worries about losing Payton to Cowboys

Six weeks ago, The Cowboys were imploding and the Saints were nervous as the real possibility floated out there that they could lose their suspended coach Sean Payton to a Dallas team on the verge of another disastrous season.

From that moment forward, Dallas was expected to throw their ten-gallon hat in the ring to challenge for his services.

Payton lives in the Dallas area and has strong ties to Cowboys trigger puller Tony Romo. It was a situation that made to much sense.

In the now, Dallas has bounced back under the tutelage of Jason Garrett and the buzz regarding a coaching change has died down tremendously.

Barring a humiliating set of losses to end the season, it appears that Garrett will return.

The two teams will play this weekend and true-to-his nature Saints quarterback Drew Brees told ESPN that he never sweated a drop about playing for another guy next season upon Payton’s return to the sport.

“Yeah, you know honestly, I haven’t really worried about that,” Brees said. “It seems like there’s been enough going on here for us to focus on and really try not to think about that. I’m very confident that Sean will be back here in New Orleans. So (we’ve) just been trying to focus on football and not think about that.”

“I think everybody is making a much bigger deal out of this than it needs to be,” Brees said. “I know it’s a big topic and that kind of thing. We have enough motivation for why we want to win this game and everything else. Is it easy motivation that I know that Coach Payton is less than 20 miles away watching the game on TV as opposed to a couple 100 miles away? No.

“I guess it doesn’t really make a difference to us; he’s always with us, even though we haven’t been able to talk to him or communicate with him. That’s been tough and that’s been difficult. It is what it is. We’ve just try to manage.”

It was smart for Brees to reinforce his verbiage with a nod to the idea that he and Payton can not have contact during his suspension.

He'll be back.

Don't forget local media. The local media is what really pisses me off. Todays Paretti Jag opinion poll, do you think Payton will be back with the Saints..really??

Glad Drew spoke out about this. Maybe the rest of the meda will follow. I feel like Payton will be back, but there is still a small piece of me that is not totally convinced. A lot can happen to a man within a year. Things change, people change.

We'll have to hear about it for another few days no matter.

Sean likes Drew a lot more than Tony I'd bet.

How the hell would Brees know? He can't even talk to Payton. He knows as much about Paytons plans as we do

Didn't Brees also tell us that he wanted to do what was best for the team during his contract thing?

Brees know Payton on a personel level that none of us even can fathom. I'm sure in the past 5 years over a beer or two its come up on where else they'd like to be. if Brees isn't worried neither am I.
Right now the only ones saying Payton is leaving is ESPN and the Mayans...
and look how thats worked out for the Mayans.

A friendly "c'mon man" -- that's not true, Dude, and you know it...you know Drew has to know more about what's up with Payton than we do, maybe not everything, but I have no doubt he knows a heckuva lot more about the situation than he's letting on. (a) he knows Payton better than any of us, and was practically the last person to talk to him before he left, and (b) there is no doubt Drew can certainly pick up a phone and talk to Benson or his office, talk to Vitt and the coaches about what they know, or he can talk to someone in the Saints camp who knows the inner workings of what's up with the contract. He can even have his agent call Payton's agent, to ask are you close, are we getting somewhere?

Brees has a LOT more pull and freaking access to info than we mere mortals have, just like he did during Bountygate. He may not make it all public, but I guarantee you that whatever is going on with this Payton contract, Brees knows a good bit more of the real whole picture than anyone in the media or fan base.
