Cornerback Elbert Mack could have a future with the New Orleans Saints

Going into Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints cornerback Elbert Mack might be getting a shot to play as the starting cornerback for the team in the absence of Jabari Greer who is out with a concussion.

While interim head coach Joe Vitt said that option would be looked at tonight, there really shouldn’t be any question on if Mack should get the nod or not. There really is only one other option which would be fellow cornerback Johnny Patrick.

I sure hope he does, he's been our best playmaking corner this season in limited playing time

Please oh lord, do not give the start to Johnny Patrick, he could not cover a mattress with a sheet

4th and 15 and he allowed 25 yards and a TD, Patrick is completely unreliable

I also hope he sticks around next year, if nothing more for cheap depth...

He played the NB/DB role very well.

I don't think he's an outside CB at all. I'm hoping we add a couple more and invite Marquis Johnson back to camp. He looked better than any of our CB's.

We desperately need fresh blood in the defensive backfield.

It's weird because Mack apparently wasn't good enough for the Bucs to keep, so when we signed him I was thinking "Why are we signing their cast-offs?" I don't know what happened, but the kid is looking like a freaking free-agency steal! Well done front office! And Danno, I completely agree with you. Why we let Marquis Johnson go was and still is baffling to me.

Perhaps, but not nearly as much as the front 7, IMO.

Specifically WLB and RDE (assuming Smith doesn't return).

I'm still intrigued by Chris Chamberlain. He's Spags' guy and unfortunately he missed the entire season. He might have a shot at breaking into the starting line-up. I don't know much about him though as a player, I just figure it can't hurt to have guys who are experienced in this defensive scheme.

Wait I thought he was on IR - we let him walk?? He looked good in preseason, showed some nice potential

Between Johnson and Corey White I'm was hoping we had something to build on

Yeah, I think he's just floating around in free agency now so I guess I'm still baffled as to why we haven't brought him back.

I liked Mack from the get go. He is fun to watch. And a Hell of a lot less skiddish than Patrick.

We need more players as hungry as Mack.

I'm curious to see what a healthy chamberlain can bring to the defence. Mack has played decently when he's been put in, maybe he'll turn out to be a steal for us.

Is future is so bright, he just might have to wear shades. I like him a lot.

Everyone keeps mentioning Chamberlain. What about Hawthorne? Wasn't this guy paired with Lofton supposed to make our Linebacker core above average? Oh and what the heck happened the Brodrick Bunkley? Supposedly the best run stuffer in the league last year? Besides Lofton, these free agent pick ups have been pretty disappointing.
