Saints' Next DE/DT

Texas A&M defensive end Damontre Moore will forego his senior season to enter the NFL draft.
Moore led the Aggies in tackles (80), sacks (12 1/2) and tackles for losses (20) this season. He was a first-team All-Southeastern Conference pick and was a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award.
Moore will finish his Texas A&M career Friday when the Aggies face Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl.

He ought to help us, if we can get him.

Well he plays the right position.

Whats his size/weight?

Just checked that. About 6' 4, 250. I don't know if he will fall that far to the Saints, but it would definitely be worth a look if they don't trade back.

A little on the light side... but could play like Von Miller did and is now.

He's not in the top ten ... so he could fall easily, I guess.

That kid from Alabama... is he any good?

odds are he will not be there when we pick. the question will be who falls down the board with him coming out?

Those rankings were last updated on the 27th and Moore just announced his intentions this weekend. Let's see where he's listed when they update those. My bet would be Top 3 easily.

Damontre Moore is going to be a top 5 pick. The kid from Alabama is only a run stuffer... he offers virtually nothing in terms of a pass rush. I think we have to go Sheldon Richardson from Missouri.

see here is where i say be careful of media hype

Barrett Jones, C/G/T, Alabama took him completely out of the game this year.

I hate one year wonders with the term "upside" tattooed to there rears. a lot more evaluation needs to be done with these type of players. Especially in round 1. Plenty of them in round 3 and on. so i pray the saints do some serious home work on the kid if they take him here.

Were with players like Jones he proved in the SEC:

2010 Soph year he can play guard
2011 Jr year proved he can play LT
2012 Sr year he can play OC

Go back and look at the drafts and see some of the players he went against. not a shabby group

of those 3 positions i have to say OC is the position were he had the most challenge.

Now i am not say to draft Jones here. what i am saying is use his play as a measuring stick for any SEC DT we consider

Trade back and take him probably. but i think he will not last to the bottom of the first

Good analysis hagan... I hadn't looked at it that way. That's why I love this board: intelligent Saints fans. Who do you want us to take in the first round? I mean, obviously other than Barret Jones. Who looks good on defense?

Re: Saints' Next DE/DT

Lemoiner of Auburn just declared.

Auburn defensive end Corey Lemonier will enter the NFL draft, he said Monday.

Lemonier can play defensive end or be a pass-rushing linebacker in the NFL.

"I feel I'm ready for the next level," Lemonier said.

Lemonier is the 24th-best available player for the NFL draft, according to ESPN's Scouts Inc. ESPN's Todd McShay projected Lemonier could go No. 26 to the Baltimore Ravens in his initial mock draft.

Lemonier said he was told he may be a third-round selection, but he hopes to improve his status before the draft.

"I've done everything I wanted in college," Lemonier said. "I feel I am ready for the next level. I am also ready to support my family."

Lemonier had 5.5 sacks this season, 9.5 sacks as a sophomore and two sacks in limited action as a freshman.

It might be DE Dion Jordan of Oregon if you believe this latest mock.

Re: Saints' Next DE/DT

at 15? grrr i hate the big boards i see plus most of the so called safe picks will be gone imo.

my target is Johnthan Banks but i he will not get pass tampa.

Too many of the defensive players seem to be over hyped a bit. maybe it is just a weak mid round for the draft for defense this year. Most of these players seem to be end of one or top of round 2 talent in previous years.

Same goes for some of the offense players.

Do not get me wrong i really like rounds 2 thru 4 this year. This draft seems to be a good year to plug a few holes and get some really good talent to improve team depth and maybe get two potential starts. Now that kind of talent is there

after that all the ones i am looking at are later in the draft

Still high on
Alex Okafor DE
Desmond Trufant CB
Kawann Short DT
Chase Thomas OLB

very interested in but need to see more on them.
Jesse Williams DT
*Xavier Rhodes CB
Ezekiel Ansah DE

unless some one drops into our lap i can see the pick going offense

*Jake Matthews OT - gone
Chance Warmack OG - pray! he is the best trade bait
*Keenan Allen WR - might be the next best trade bait depends on the combine

trade down
Jonathan Cooper OG
Lane Johnson OT
Barrett Jones OC
Tavon Austin WR

I hope if thats the case we get trade offers.

Heck i could easily live with trading out of one and banking the first round pick for next year and pick up second this year.

2014 break the bank for Jadeveon Clowney DE SC

yep he fall into that group "high ceiling" it is a tempting pick but he reminds me of Martez Wilson, were will he play? DE or LB? i just do not see him as a physical DE. he seems lacks that hand punch to separate from OT and bull rush a QB. but that can be coached

It would be interesting to have both of the Saints' starting DEs be named Jordan at some point in time, but I'd be hesitant to pick him based on Hagan's analysis alone.

But the mock drafts and overall rankings will change a lot until they settle down more after the combine at the end of February, so until then it'll be hard to assess who'll be available when the Saints pick.

Draft picks dont have to fall. If the FO sees something they need, we go get him we have bait to dangle.

Thats probably how they move Ivory. He'll get squat in a trade, but could be used to move up. Same goes for Shanle, PT, Herring, Bush, etc...

TheOak 01-03-2013 07:43 AM

My gut tells me Cadet may bring good value.

With our cap problems he's a perfect back-up special teamer. I think most teams already have a Cadet somewhere on their roster.

Possibly. How deep is Cadet on the return list?

Behind Sproles, Moore,.... We didn't see much of him until late in the season. Possibly end of season showcase for trade.

While ivory does have health issues he is nearly a guaranteed first down on short yardage.

Heh LOL. If we ever decide to run on short yardage .

Re: Saints' Next DE/DT

i would like to see the saints work Cadet into the passing game as a wr also. that way he can add depth to the wr corp and make that one less position to worry about, the pats seem to do all the time.
it would free up a roster spot for an additional defensive player

Re: Saints' Next DE/DT

Corey Lemonier yet another reason not to fear moving down in the draft. but imo the DE are all a reach in round 1. this is not a deep class of elite DE. most of these DE are top of the second round talents. all come with "?".

So scouting them up is key. lets hope another Cam Jordan type of DE fall into our laps.

Alex Okafor keeps jumping to the top of my list for some reason as the player to trade down and target. i need the combine numbers to help me understand why i guess. i just like his style of play i guess

papz 01-03-2013 06:58 PM

Re: Saints' Next DE/DT

I'm not interested in another Cam Jordan on our team. This team lacks an elite pass rusher. While a Cam Jordan can rush the passer, having two of them won't solve that lack of pressure we so dearly lack.

There are plenty of quality pass rushing DE prospects in this draft... it's pretty deep actually. We'll know whether or not they're "elite" until after their workouts... when teams start drooling over their combine numbers.

Yep, another 3-4 DE or a 4-3 LDE isn't the answer. We need a RDE who plays the run decent but is a ferocious pass rusher.

Cam Jordan is a solid LDE. We need that Freeny type on the right.

Now if we shift to a 3-4, then another Cam Jordan type is fine, although Hicks can fill that role just fine.

I saw a mock draft this afternoon that had Mingo fall to 15. I think I understand what you were trying to say now. Someone of high value falling into our laps. Something like would definitely be lovely.

I could definitely dig a Hicks/Bunkley/Jordan front 3. We might finally get some sort of return on Bunkley.
