Reported on WWL tonight that the Saints will occasionally use a 3-4 allignment in an effort to find more ways to get Will Smith on the field.

Darren Howard and Charles Grant would be the DE's.

Brian Young at NT.

Courtney Watson and Derrick Rodgers at ILB's.

James Allen and Will Smith at OLB's

They made it clear we are not shifting to a bse 3-4 defense, but just an occasional defensive allignment to get Will Smith on the field more.

I think this set up will work magnificently for the Saints. Although it is better to have an alternate defensive scheme during the game. Just to give the opponents an element of surprise.

I would have thought they\'d pick a guy that could hold his position a bit more, not a quick 1gap DT.

I think Sullivan, Green or even Leisle would be a better nose.

Maybe they\'re only referring to passing situations. If its 3rd and 12 yeah, that sounds like a QB nightmare.

If its 3rd and 6 I run it right up the gut.

If I\'m not mistaken, I called something similar to this not long after the draft. My thought was that they\'d move to primarily 3-4, though. I did, however, think that there was no way possible that the Saints could have all that speed and talent at linebacker and not use them in some sort of 3-4 scheme. I\'ll be anxious to see this package on the field.

Brian Yound is the defensive lineman you have to play... he never stops... makes things happen and he creates oppitunities. Hell you can like him up at saftey but you put him on the field.
