I could be wrong, but that is the impression I have gotten.
Loomis hired Payton, much more than an accountant.

Yeah, and Benson hired Loomis, so does that make Benson the ultimate mastermind behind how the Saints' personnel (staff and players) was chosen and hired in the past, and how they are going to be chosen and hired in the future?!

Some questions Loomis had no problem diving into, while other issues Loomis had no problem not touching at all. Here are the vast majority of the questions posed to Loomis on Wednesday:

Q: Have you crossed the point where you have decided to keep all of your assistant coaches that are currently on staff?

Loomis: "Look, ultimately that's Sean's decision. I've always given him the opportunity to determine the makeup of his staff. I can't answer that."

Q: How much does Payton not being here hinder making (coaching) moves?

Loomis: "Clearly, it does."

This is from the Q&A thread with Loomis.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

So basically Loomis could step in and overrule SP if he did something really crazy but for now Loomis lets him decide on the staff. Interesting.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I let my daughters pick which breakfast cereal they want, but by no means does that mean they buy it them selves, and it most certainly is not an unvetted process.

Loomis has total control and responsibility. He does the hiring and firing of coaches with Sean Paytons input and recommendation. Loomis had 16 years with the Seahawks and is hardly just a numbers guy or pencil pusher.

Benson hired Loomis yes, but it was through a consulting firm or headhunter that deals in finding NFL GM talent... as I doubt seriously anyone would argue that Benson has the NFL prowess to seek out and hire on his own a GM. Loomis has been with the Saints since 2000, way before Sean Payton, and yes Loomis is the person responsible for Sean Payton... Hence Paytons contract that connected him to Loomis at the hip.

The person that makes the decisions is not the one in control.... The person that lets him and grants that power is... and ultimately responsible.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Yes, but the initial point that we were debating - or at least what I thought we were - was that there won't be any coaching changes before SP is reinstated, and before he can make those decisions, not Loomis.

The question was not about who is responsible or who actually has the official power to hire and fire personnel, but who the person is - in effect - who makes those decisions, and that person is SP.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Living in Dallas, I have seen enough of Rob Ryan to know we don't want him anywhere near our team.
