Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Rob Ryan’s brother Rex may still have a job but he does not.

The Dallas Cowboys have let their energetic defensive coordinator go after two seasons with the team.

Rob Ryan is out of Dallas

ohhhhh snap.... I doubt they let spags go after 1 year

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Sean Payton specifically wanted Spagnuolo... He isn't getting fired before they even have a chance to coach together.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

I will take Lovie Smith before Ryan. Jones is an idiot for firing Ryan the Cowboys have bigger problems with Jason and Tony. Rob must have stepped on Jerry's toes or questioned his royal highness.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

No way we get rid of Spags after just one year, especially one where he didn't even have the chance to work with Payton...

Keep Spags, bring Rob in as dline coach

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

I would pass, Rob's DNA is too similar to that blowhard coaching the Jets.

44Champs 01-09-2013 12:06 AM

Ryan has never had a winning season as a D coordinator. He would also be a media attention hound and a distraction.

The only Ryan I would like coaching the Saints D is Buddy....

If we didn't have Sprags maybe...
But I don't want to switch coaches again and be left with the same excuse next year about hwo the defense has to "learn" yet another new scheme (even thought its a Buddy Ryan ran defense which they already know)

I think the last former cowgirl coach that we got worked out okay, I guess...

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Evident that the players we have knew very little about defense so I am still concerned about Spags. Sure it was a difficult year but in general he did a crapy job this year. The wheels came off big time not like he had to do anything else but defense so I really dont know what to think about him at all. Where do we start? There seems to be so many needs.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Rob Ryan was fired because he isn't a yes man... which means he's probably a good coach

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Goodell's unfair punishments against us continue to to hurt. This whole topic is moot anyway, seeing as how SP can't even discuss moves for next year until after the SB. We can't even evaluate our team until after all other coaching moves will have likely already been made.

I hate that bastard more and more each day. I hope he chokes on a crab claw when he's in NOLA!

Loomis hires and fires coaches.

But he is more of an accountant than a team-builder, and I think SP has more say in which staff members are hired and which players are signed than Loomis does.

SP tells Loomis who he would like to have and Loomis tries to find a way to make it happen financially.

I could be wrong, but that is the impression I have gotten.

Loomis hired Payton, much more than an accountant.

Yeah, and Benson hired Loomis, so does that make Benson the ultimate mastermind behind how the Saints' personnel (staff and players) was chosen and hired in the past, and how they are going to be chosen and hired in the future?!

Jerry fired the wrong guy. Look in the mirror Jerry.

Some questions Loomis had no problem diving into, while other issues Loomis had no problem not touching at all. Here are the vast majority of the questions posed to Loomis on Wednesday:

Q: Have you crossed the point where you have decided to keep all of your assistant coaches that are currently on staff?

Loomis: "Look, ultimately that's Sean's decision. I've always given him the opportunity to determine the makeup of his staff. I can't answer that."

Q: How much does Payton not being here hinder making (coaching) moves?

Loomis: "Clearly, it does."

This is from the Q&A thread with Loomis.

So basically Loomis could step in and overrule SP if he did something really crazy but for now Loomis lets him decide on the staff. Interesting.

Exactly what I was going to say.

I let my daughters pick which breakfast cereal they want, but by no means does that mean they buy it them selves, and it most certainly is not an unvetted process.

Loomis has total control and responsibility. He does the hiring and firing of coaches with Sean Paytons input and recommendation. Loomis had 16 years with the Seahawks and is hardly just a numbers guy or pencil pusher.

Benson hired Loomis yes, but it was through a consulting firm or headhunter that deals in finding NFL GM talent... as I doubt seriously anyone would argue that Benson has the NFL prowess to seek out and hire on his own a GM. Loomis has been with the Saints since 2000, way before Sean Payton, and yes Loomis is the person responsible for Sean Payton... Hence Paytons contract that connected him to Loomis at the hip.

The person that makes the decisions is not the one in control.... The person that lets him and grants that power is... and ultimately responsible.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Yes, but the initial point that we were debating - or at least what I thought we were - was that there won't be any coaching changes before SP is reinstated, and before he can make those decisions, not Loomis.

The question was not about who is responsible or who actually has the official power to hire and fire personnel, but who the person is - in effect - who makes those decisions, and that person is SP.

Living in Dallas, I have seen enough of Rob Ryan to know we don't want him anywhere near our team.

Loomis can make coaching changes now, Payton has permission to talk to the Saints organization, he doesn't have to be reinstated. That's how Sean Payton's contract was finalized.

lee909 01-10-2013 10:58 AM

I thought he was only allowed to talk contract with the team.
I would take any chances of personnel changes until he is back, that egomaniac will be looking for any excuse to keep the suspension in place while investigating claims he talked to Loomis about football matters.Or take another pick away.

Re: Spagnuolo for Rob Ryan?

Payton decides on his assistants that's how we got GW in the first place.
Payton originally paid out of his own pocket the extra $250K required to hire GW after we won the Super Bowl Benson paid Payton back. It's his decision providing the salary is approved by Benson. Don't think Ryan and Payton would work out. Had that experience with GW.

See if he has a tattoo of Romo in his wife's jersey... Much rather see Crennel or better yet, Lovie.
