HARD LOSS

Can't believe the result today feels like a death in the family seeing Atlanta win. I hate to say it but the 49ers have to beat the Dirty Birds but it is a lousy choice either way.

Nothing like warming up an opposing kicker.

Moronic.

I just became a MASSIVE AFC fan for the remainder of the season.

Go Texans/Ravens!

I want to be able to root for at least one team in the SuperBowl; If it's the Patriots from the AFC I doubt I'll even watch.

Re: HARD LOSS

One reason I never really really, truly warmed to Reggie Bush is that I disliked him from college, because I hate Pete Carroll so much.

I should've known that, the one time I needed him to do something, he would *ice* the kicker like a chump. The end of that game was just horrible and I think it gave me whiplash to boot.

Re: HARD LOSS

I hear what you all are saying about Petey Carolyn.
WTH was he thinking. Clearly, AF missed the first FG. Since it was just for practice, well, the one that counted went as smooth as silk.
It is always best to practice first for anything.

AF in nNFC Conf game. I am feeling sick.
Come on 49er's.
The Football Gods of 2012 have not been good to us at all.
8-8 Saints, No.
AF losing this game, No.
Peyton coming back to N.O. SB in his hometown, No.
Tht would have been good, fun, pr. Something.
Petey Carolyn read Saints book 2012 called How To Lose?
Then he read Less Miles 2012 book, Shoot Yourself In The Foot.

I feel so awful, I might have to go to express my sorrow, condolences to SSeahawks on their board.

And doesn't Mike Smith look like Eddie Munster?
Somebody post up a pic of Smith and Little Eddie Munster.

Texans have to win.,
AF have to lose and lose big next week.
Football Gods, give us something.

Re: HARD LOSS

In the sport of American football or Canadian football, the act of icing the kicker or freezing the kicker is a tactic employed by defending teams to disrupt the process of kicking a field goal just prior to the snap. Typically, either a player or a coach on the defending team will call time out just as the kicker is about to attempt a game-tying or game-winning field goal. This is intended to either stop the kick immediately as the kicker is mentally prepared, or allow for the kicker to kick immediately after the timeout so that the initial kick doesn't count, in an attempt to mentally disrupt the kicker for the actual kick.

One variant of this tactic, attributed to former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan,[1] is to call time out from the sidelines just before the ball is snapped. This prevents the kicking team from realizing the kick will not count until after the play is over. However, this has the potential to backfire, as the kicker could miss the first attempt that does not count, or it could be blocked, but he could make the second attempt.

Under league rules, a team can only call one time out between plays. Teams that attempt to call two consecutive timeouts are penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, and the offense is awarded an automatic first down.

Read second paragraph.

Don't like the '49ers, but want them to DESTROY the Falcons!! Can't stand anything about the Falcons, especially that grinning Ryan! The final play today ruined my weekend.....just sayin"

How sickening.......either the dirty turd birds or the whiners will be representing the NFC.....IN OUR HOUSE! Since I can't stomach either cry baby Harbaugh, or worse the Failclowns, not sure I can watch the SB this year. How nauseating.

Re: HARD LOSS

There was more choking in the 4th quarter of that Seahawks/Falcons game than a fetish porn video.

I hate the Ravens. I hate the Falcons. I hate the Niners. I am indifferent about the Patriots. However, the last thing I want to see is a battle of the two most media over-hyped QB's over the last five years (Ryan vs. Flacco).

Having said that, next week, Arthur Blank's name will be replaced on the deed to the Falcons and replaced by Colin Kaepernick. He will own them!

Re: HARD LOSS

Tbh, I fully expected Atlanta to win this game and make that comeback. With that said, SF has not just beaten us they beat GB on the road and at home, beat NE on the road. And look at it this way we put up the bigger fight before the pick sixes. They didnt have their way with us before that. They dominated GB and NE from the start and held them off. I can't be mad at them and tbh I wasnt a fan during the NFC West years so maybe thats why.

Re: HARD LOSS

Atlanta doesn't have a good enough defense to go all the way. They let the hawks come back from a 20-0 lead.

Re: HARD LOSS

One of the things that actually sicken me about the Falcons in the playoffs this year is they get HFA vs 2 WEST COAST teams.

Meaning they got to travel cross country to play the Falcons, probably mattered enough for Seattle to lose that game.

To really add more fuel to the fire.......... Baltimore for some strange ass reason does not match up well vs Falcons, meaning if Baltimore gets into the SB.......its like handing the trophy to the Falclowns on a silver platter, we been seeing these matchup problems and schedule types the last couple of years where things line up perfectly. Happened last year with NY and the year before with GB.

At least I can kinda' root for the Patriots, seeing as how Brady is of University of Michigan grad ... <sigh>.

Re: HARD LOSS

While I wouldn't wish injury on any player, I could certainly stomach the 49ers taking out Julio Roddy or Ryan, which is pretty much the Niners MO of how they win most of their big games like this. The 49er defense focuses on targets and takes out 1 or 2 key pieces of the other team's offense, and then on the other side of the ball, the special teams are great and the offense is only just good enough not to lose. I am a classy fan and I wouldn't wish injury on any player, but I will be saying "Dirty Bird can't fly with a broken wing" all week. With the league and the media putting the spotlight on concussions and injuries, they will be making people leave this game right and left and sending them to the locker room for testing. The 49ers know that and will exploit it in a way that the Falcons can't respond. Take any one of those three pieces off the table, or create a weak link in their offensive line through an injury...and the Falcons are done. Take any one piece out of San Francisco due to injury, they still keep going, just look at Kaepernick. That will be the difference.

Re: HARD LOSS

I don't care for the 49'ers either but I hate them alot less that Atlanta.
49er's are one of the most physical teams I've seen all year. I hope they smash the sh*t out of that falcons teams. Then I'm for the ravens...

When I look at the caliber of the playoff teams this year Atlanta has no business being in the mix. 13-3 record means nothing when you haven't played good teams all years. Other teams earned thier playoff spot...
Atlanta was pretty much given thiers.

Re: HARD LOSS

It was definitely a tease. I felt bad for Seattle fans who had to feel like we did when we lost to the niners in the playoffs. No way Atlanta beats San Fran.

Re: HARD LOSS

Saw a stat one time that kickers that are iced and miss the 1st kick that is negated by the timeout are MORE accurate (80%) on the 2nd try.

If it were me as the head coach (Pete Carroll in this case), I would have made a spectacle of myself for the opposing bench by runnning over to the ref but not calling the timeout and hope that screwed the kicker up since he was expecting the timeout to be called.

Giving kickers a practice kick doesn't seem to work well to me.

Re: HARD LOSS

It seems a lot of people are giving Atlanta a chance because they don't want to believe Seattle is anything less than a NFC powerhouse already. Idk I don't think ravens are beating pats. i could be wrong but really Baltimore played their best offense against Denver.

Well I said one time before if Atl does do anything in the playoffs, it will be there defense to do it. Thats exactly what happened in the Seattle game by holding Seattle scoreless in the first half.

I think its also funny Atl is lucky enough to run into 2 teams with rookie QBs.

Re: HARD LOSS

Yeah lucky but SF has a much better coach. And Wilson's versatility was what enabled Seattle to come back. San Fran is a better defense though. It will be interesting however as Atlanta is the emotional team. I just pray Atlanta doesnt win the sb.

If they do watch who they schedule opening night..........us.

I Flacco can keep slinging it like he did they have a chance but I think Ol' Bill will have him confused with some crazy scheme and then Brady will pick an old and slow defence apart.

The Pats have a pretty good defense, acquiring Talib back in November seems to be working out for them. Wolfork, Ninkovitch, Mayo, Hightower, Tavon Wilson, McCourty ... they got some good talent on that squad. I didn't get a chance to see 'em much during the season, but I was really impressed by the Houston game. Plus they got Bellichek.
