Re-Signing Jermon Bushrod Saints Top Priority This Offseason?

According to Saints GM Mickey Loomis, re-signing unrestricted free agent left tackle Jermon Bushrod will be the biggest challenge facing the Saints front office this offseason, per Sheldon Mickles of the Baton Rouge Advocate.

“It’s going to be subject to what his perceived market is and what we’re able to do. He’s the No. 1 tough deal,” Loomis said of Bushrod.

As thing stand right now, the Saints are projected to be over the cap by $14.7 million next year (NFL Cap Space), so they’ll have to make some serious adjustments in the coming months if they hope to retain Bushrod.

The good news for the Saints is that there are a number of a quality offensive tackles on the market this year, which should really help to bring down the price of some of these players like Bushrod.

We have Bushrod ranked as the No. 28 best available player on our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Well Brees has stated that he wants Bushrod back so I hope it happens.

It shouldn't be a top priority. There are plenty lt out there that aren't gonna demand what bushrod may. As long as the price is reasonable though.

I don't see how he could want top dollar. He knows he is not a top dollar LT. He's good but not top dollar good. It has also been stated how DB makes the line better just because of his fast release. IMO Bushrod would barely be a starter on a team with a lesser QB. Lets face it, he aint no Roaf.

He's an above average LT, barely. We could do a lot worse and many teams do.

I think he's our top FA to re-sign.

Not sure where "top dollar" came from.

Loomis "It’s going to be subject to what his perceived market is"

Perceived market = Market for a LT at his skill level.

Yeah JB is decent. We need to try to re-sign him to an average deal. Only reason he's a "top priority" is because we need to look at upgrading other positions on the O Line.

Jermon might not be all pro but it could be worse

we could have the chicago bears O line, brees wouldn't make it to year 3 of his contract with those guys "protecting" him every week

There is literally a dozen FA tackles, that are as good or better than Bushrod, on the market this year.

I really hope that drives the market price down. I don't have anything against Bushrod. But I know the Saints can't afford to pay anything more. This is a position where the Saints are very thin. So I'm hoping the Saints can pick up a good quality back up, on the cheap, relatively speaking.
