With Sean Payton Back, Should New Orleans Saints Be Considered Super Bowl Contenders in 2013?

Hell to the yeah!!

*********************************************************

If there was anything to take away from the New Orleans Saints during the 2012 season, it was how much the team missed head coach Sean Payton–who was suspended the entire year due to the bounty scandal.

Payton was officially reinstated on Wednesday and while he obviously has his regrets about what happened in the past–the coach’s main focus now is preparing the Saints for the 2013 season. With the way things ended last season, New Orleans was hoping for an opportunity to be one of the top contenders in the NFC this past season since they’re hosting Super Bowl XLVII and it would have been nice to play on their own field, but those dreams fell through quick after the team started the season 0-4.

As long as Drew Brees remains healthy, there’s no question New Orleans is always going to be considered one of the top teams in the league and Payton’s absence last season showed how much of an impact it had on this team. The Atlanta Falcons may have been the champions of the NFC South this past season, but don’t be surprised if the Saints bounce back in 2013 now that Payton is back on board.

Forget what happened last season–this New Orleans’ team has what it takes to be one of the most dangerous in the league heading into the offseason. The weapons are certainly there on offense and if they can figure out a way to improve the defense as well–expect Payton and company to be Super Bowl contenders next season.

Lets see what happens to the defense first

Too many personnel questions on the defense and offensive tackle; special teams were a disaster unless Morestead was kicking the ball at the back of the end zone...

Ask me again when I have seen the new defense players and the 1st regular season game.

If the defense improves in any way then absolutely. When you look at this past season we were just a play or two away from winning several of those games we lost. Not to mention we were still in the playoff picture fairly deep into the season. Having Sean back will make all the difference in the world.

yes, absolutely. Anything else is absured. SP created a team from nothing in 2006. Now most teams are copying our offense, like Bills, Patriots, Falcons, GB, etc..
People dont copy what doesnt work, and the Saints have been the most successful and dominating offence in the NFL sence 2006. If we ever had a defense that was worth a damn we would have 3 rings by now, lol.

We were 100% Playoff contenders the day he walked back in the building. Their is not a team in the NFL that would not hire him as head coach, even NE fans say they would want him as their #1 choice if BB retires.
The guy is the #1 or #2 best coach in the NFL, of course were are SB contenders again.

Why not? They got as good a chance as anybody. Just tweak the defense a little.

But of course they should!!!! And the rest of the league should be quivering at the very thought of SP's return.
