Devin Hester wants a “fresh start”

Hester and Sproles in the backfield?

*********************************************************

Bears return man Devin Hester has been frustrated this offseason, and said he might need a “fresh start” to make football fun again.

Hester told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune he wanted to play a few more years, even if it is somewhere other than Chicago.

“I’m going to try to get two or three more years in,” the 30-year-old Hester said. “I think I have that much left in me.

“At the same time, I think I do need a fresh start.”

Hester has a year left on his contract, but seemed more frustrated with his lack of action on offense. He caught 57 passes in 2009, but just 23 last season.

“Not only this year, but the last couple of years it has been like that,” Hester said. “It was really starting to show, why I was frustrated.

“I’m not making any excuses. I know some of the plays I should have made in terms of catching the ball. But I just wasn’t feeling it. My mind wasn’t there the majority of the time.”

He called a trade “a possibility,” but said if he returns to the Bears, he’s willing to just return.

“To be honest with you, if I’m still here, I don’t want to play offense,” he said. “I don’t think my role [on offense] will fit. I can’t truly say that with the new offense, but from past experience, I don’t think it will fit. . . .

“If I’m here, I want to bring another Super Bowl title to this city. I love the fans and the support. But I don’t want to play this game like I have the last couple of years — not having fun.”

It’s clear that Hester’s issues go far beyond the firing of head coach Lovie Smith, and will be something the Bears need to decide if they want to work on fixing, or just move on from the aging return specialist.

No way he would fit on this team...

Hester is a terrible excuse for a WR

Andy Tanner our practice squad WR would easily beat hester for a spot

Hes a return man at best and at 30 years old his time is running out

Only seems like 2 minutes ago he was running the superbowl kickoff back

Neaux...

I want Julian Edelman, a REAL Football Player...

...and not some one-trick pony...

What if we traded Arrington for him?

Hmmm......I wonder what the point value on the trade chart that would be?
We're not as deep at WR as most folks seem to think, but I certainly think we need to address defense before anything else except of course OT.

Yeah no thanks. Not a need for us by any stretch.

Seems like everybody tries to get out of Chicago at some point.

He`s not even the best return player in Chicago anymore.
Sproles will hopefully get fully fit and ready to be the return guy again

Um... Really... I would want Jerome Pathon to come back to play instead of having hester....

But wouldn't that necessitate the Saints having Arrignton under contract?

Everyones trippin hard here ... We lost our meachem , Hesters an upgrade and an immediate threat to take the saftey off the top of doubles ... Really ? Hester , No Good , Bush , No Good , Come on now it's not like we just won the superbowl and have world class athletes to choose from ... Brees Sproles and Graham are the only Over the Top Good players We have that would kick tail anywhere. We need more " Ballers "

We have joe morgan to take the top off the defense and he's already 10 times the player hester is

Agreed! I much rather see the Saints try and develop Joe Morgan than to bring Hester in. Hester has been a great returnman but a so so WR and I frankly think his best days are behind him.

No place for him. We are looking more at the DEFENSE anyway.

Re: Devin Hester wants a “fresh start”

I can't believe that people are actually wanting more offense ballers...
We scored 30+ a game last year... we just need a defense to hold people to 20+ we're not far off!

lol

Re: Devin Hester wants a “fresh start”

Maybe I'm crazy but I like the idea of bringing in Hester (for the right price) for nothing else but to stretch the field, something we lost when Meachem left. I can't speak much to his declining speed at 30, but I think he may actually be a good addition in a specific role.

Re: Devin Hester wants a “fresh start”

I'm gonna have to say no. Joe Morgan is developing very nicely as a deep threat. While it's true that we're a little thin at WR with Devery probably not being resigned, I think Nick Toon will work his way into games and Andy Tanner has a bunch of potential as well.

TheOak 02-04-2013 04:32 PM

Sure..... Pitch him league minimum

IMHO Hester is done Pass! KR is a postion where
we could use an upgrade

I'll have to pass on him as well.

Re: Devin Hester wants a “fresh start”

take him on draft day trade with chicago.

But before you do it make sure you have done your homework and trade him for a pick or to move up the board in another round.

No way do we hold onto him. one dimensional players are not what we need
