Payton denies Ryan hire imminent, speaks in-depth on BountyGate

If Rob Ryan is going to be the new defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints, it has not happened yet, at least, according to Sean Payton.

The Saints head coach was a guest on "Mike and Mike In The Morning" Wednesday morning and addressed that situation, as well as "Bountygate" and lingering bitterness moving forward regarding the suspensions.

Was Romeo just a pipe dream? I'm curious to know what happened and why he is isn't the front runner based on his background and running the 3-4.

Romeo is still being paid from his KC contract. He would actually lose money if he coached this year because no one would match his salary from being a HC to a DC. It's in his best interest to sit 2013 out unless it was for a HC job with 5 year deal.

go with an up and coming coach please. and do the same in the secondary.

A Tomsula hire could mean some FA from SF coming here. say Isaac Sopoaga

I was listening to Sirius and Adam Schein said the Saints hiring Rob Ryan as DC was a BIG MISTAKE. Jim Miller was more kind...said given the current state of the D, not a bad thing.

I am not in favor of Ryan as the DC for the Saints. Not now, not ever!

I wish these people saying we HIRED him already get their **** right. This is what happens when people take Schefter's tweets as Gospel. He's been wrong before u know..... And SEAN PAYTON HIMSELF ON NATIONAL RADIO THAT HE HASN'T EVEN INTERVIEWED THE GUY.

How hard is that to comprehend?!?!?

Although I'm not a Ryan fan....look at the offenses he had....with the Raiders, Browns and Dallas. Dallas was his best offense and when you're dealing with JJ, Romo and Garrett (who tries to be on SP's level but is clearly not as good)....come on.

I'm not a fan of his personality but after looking at it objectivley.....he could do well with a team that can actually function well offensivley.

Oakland, Cleveland, Dallas.

Rob Ryan probably isn't the reason.

$2 Rob Ryan is behind all of the Rob Ryan propaganda.

Well I guess it's time to buck the trend.

I understood that Romeo's pay from KC is reduced by how much a team is paying him. Not that he "loses money". If KC owes him $3mill and Benson pays him $2mill that leaves KC on the hook for $1mill

I agree with those who want a young up and comer and a guy who has some NFL experience. NOT a well-traveled veteran like Williams, Spags, Ryan, etc.

Romeo would be the only exception to that statement.

If I remember correctly, Crennel doesn't lose any money if he gets hired for less. The Chiefs would still be on the hook for the difference between what his new salary would be and whatever the Chiefs own him. So of the Chiefs owe him 3M and he gets hired for 2M, the Chiefs will still be paying Crennel 1M.

Edit: beat to the punch.

Everybody seems to think we'll try to go after a coach from the 9ers, and in fact we did ask for permission to talk to Donatell but, while the 9ers do have a very good defense, the Ravens defense is better still and I'd love to see Payton get a coach from the Ravens. No one even seems to be thinking about that.
