No Sean Lee, no Bruce Carter, no Jay Ratliff. Those are 3 very good defenders he lost for most of the season. And his defense slipped from 5th to 19th which was understandable, and the team still never lost a game by more than 6 points even with an offense that had turnovers over like it was made by Pillsbury.

I don't have high hopes for this season defensively, but I think we can be top 15 by next year under him.

Late to the show, but do not want.

People keep saying "he lost players", that is the same as "not having the players for his scheme"......

Sound familiar?

Either way Ryan and Spags had to take the field with their required talent not on the field and failed to adapt and overcome.

Those excuses of hurt players or not having the players do not fly in the NFL.

Which is why they have both been fired.

Williams "made" something work.

For a while. He flat out ran out of adaptations. He ran out of tricks on the Indianapolis blowout and everyone was blocking all of his blitzes by that season's stretch. We need a thinker as a DC. I'm hoping Rob's innovations with his vocabulary ( I think he's the only guy that gets bleeped even when he's not wearing a mic) will carry over to his defensive schemes.

I have very mixed feelings about this hire. Personally, I think he's greasy and I don't trust him(his look). He looks dishonest to me.jmho
On the other hand we had to switch to a 3-4 with our personnel or lack thereof. I'm hoping that this greasy fat bast*** can motivate and actually coach this defense. Which is something we desperately need. It looks like we may have some talented players that just need to be put in the right position to make plays. Round hole square peg?
Like I said I have some reservations but it's mostly a persona thing. I am still quite surprised that Payton went this direction. Oh well, he's here now and I will back him for this season.
Bring us back to the promised land Mr. Ryan. As I understand it you run a similar aggressive defense to GW..........Now get busy coaching.:bng:

Rob Ryan's childish antics will keep me from ever warming up to him. If we have a good defense I'll be happy about that, but it won't change my opinion. Yeah, yeah, I know... It doesn't matter if anyone likes him, blah blah. I'm worried about the distractions he will cause. Plus, despite what he thinks of himself, he's never proven to be anything more than a mediocre to, maybe, slightly above average DC. I hope he keeps his mouth shut and we end up with a good Defense.

That is a good point and a lot of talent to lose...
