Source: Rob Ryanís contract hasnít even been drafted yet

So Iím off for a couple of hours for some first-Sunday-without-football-since-Labor-Day-weekend time with the family and as soon as I get back to the official PFT Commodore 64 the first thing I utter is, ďWhat I miss?Ē

An editor at NFL.com tweeted that new Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan canít talk to the media without the approval of Saints V.P. of public relations Greg Bensel. Bensel said via Twitter that the report is ď100% false.Ē

Hereís a specific piece of evidence supporting the notion that the report is 100 percent false. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Ryan hasnít signed a contract yet. He hasnít signed it because it hasnít been drafted yet.

In fairness to the original report, this could be a case of the reporter/editor being in the right church but the wrong pew. Regardless of the leagueís rules regarding media availability, plenty of coaches keep a tight leash on their assistants. Given that Rob Ryan has a reputation for running his Ring Ding regurgitator, it would make plenty of sense for the Saints to demand discretion.

Who cares if thatís not in the contract? You hire the guy and you tell the guy this is the way itís going to be, or the relationship isnít going to last.

Itís a common disconnect between the ďwhereforesĒ and the real world. The paper says what the paper says, but the people behind the paper know how they expect things to be. And if Ryan ever finds himself in a situation where heís slamming on Sean Paytonís desk a document that nowhere restricts Ryan from talking to the press whenever and however and wherever he wants, then heís in footballís version of Elysium, and his career with the Saints is already dead

This is the same outlet that claimed we had a shut-up clause in his contract.

We'll just have to wait and see.

If he does what he says, then let him say whatever he wants!

...As long as it's nothing that give rogger another reason to go after us that is....

The main reason I didn't want Rob Ryan in the first place was because of his diarrhea of the mouth. The last time we had a blowhard defensive coordinator, we ended up with our head coach, assistant head coach, and general manager suspended. If he just shuts the hell up and does his job that he was hired to do instead of giving every opponent bulletin board material in their locker room, then this could potentially be a decent hire. They are going to have to invest in an extra large muzzle with big fat fleur-de-lis as the mouthpiece for this guy, though. Or maybe even a shock collar that zaps him every time he starts to say something stupid. Wouldn't THAT make for an interesting interview?

I don't care if talks to the media. His personality is his personality. Not gonna make a diff what the players think.

Hope the dude brings some attitude, lord knows we need some of that next season.

Also whatever he was before doesn't matter now. He is a saint now.
