Is Hartley The Man?

Does anyone else get nervous when Hartley takes the field? He scares the hell out of me. He is just so inconsistent that I have no faith in him anymore. Of course our whole team has been inconsistent.
One thing that I do believe is that Payton really likes him based on what I've seen.
I've been defending him saying he owns a Superbowl record, but that was years ago. Do you think he is still the man?

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Yeah I do. Not the absolute best, but we've had much much worse. Ya'll remember Olando Mare? I wasn't even nervous when he took the field....I just knew he wasn't going to get the FG. Hell I got nervous when he lined up for extra point.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Akers stunk it up too. We should not have to hold our breath on 30 yd FGs. If he missed at 45+ I would understand but the last 2 years he missed soem very close kicks...by a lot. I'd rather have Kasay.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Is there a kicker that you would like to bring in to compete with Hartley?

Hmmm...

I misread the title and thought this was about his sexuality. ;-)

Yes he is DA MAN !

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Regardless of anything, I think Hartley is solid. He's young and experienced. No need to bring someone in...besides it just freaks him out and makes him worthless.

Yes he is.

I wouldn't be upset if he was released.

I think we have other positions to worry about before we worry about the kicker.

FinSaint 02-14-2013 03:51 PM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Well rookie kickers did pretty well for themselves this past season - Walsh for the Vikes on the forefront - so I guess the question is if you can find a rookie kicker in the later rounds who'd be cheap and as effective as Hartley.

It's all about the Benjamins...

His current performance is simply adequate.

All for bringing. another in and may the best. WIN.

I'm willing to try out. I'm good from 10 yards on in...

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

He does make me nervous, but it seems like Sean really likes him. That and with all the other things for Sean to figure out, I see him here for this year at least.

I like Hartley but as it goes I believe in competition is the only thing that makes teams better, bring them in I would say.

The Dude 02-15-2013 12:28 AM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

I don't like him. I don't think he mentally has what it takes. The only problem is there isn't anyone else out there we could get who wouldn't be as big of a risk. Yea he got us through the SB but that was then this is now. You can only go so far off of one kick. Superbowl aside one can argue that he has lost more games than won for us. I wish we could get someone better but I don't see it happening. I agree he scares the hell out of me and if the game is on the line I have absolutely 0 confidence in him. Especially on the chip shots. Not a chance in hell do I waste a draft pick on a kicker. I would be livid with all the other holes we have.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

NO, he's not the man. We can easily do better in UFAs.

Budsdrinker 02-15-2013 08:13 AM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

If Santos from Tulane doesn't get drafted, I would bring him in as a UDFA.
He's use to kicking in the dome and didn't miss a kick last year which included several +50 but I would not draft a kicker. Too many other needs.

Beastmode 02-15-2013 08:42 AM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

He's good enough. My thing on kickers is if the game is in their hands there's plenty of blame to go around for even being in that position. Case in point, Anderson was one of the greatest of all time yet we NEVER won a playoff game. Even if Hartley was 100% this past season it would not have mattered. We lost 7 game by more than 3 points. Almost half the games he had no impact.

He was great out of the gate, but NO, he has been a head case ever since..

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

Having a heavily-medicated emo headcase kicker with ADD on the team, who kicks like a girl, is one of those mad hatter Sean Payton CONCEPTS that will have to be revisited and reviewed, now that he is back in the office.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

I'm over Hartley. He's done. It's time to move on and get the Tulane kicker.

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

I think Payton hasn't forgotten the huge mistake he made when he let Carney go. Ultimately he replaced Carney with Carney.

vpheughan 02-18-2013 06:21 PM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

With few exceptions kickers become steady and reliable but not with the team that signed them initially.

Danno 02-18-2013 06:22 PM

Re: Is Hartley The Man?

So if he burned 3 late draft picks on a kicker would everyone be OK with that?

I agree with almost every thing SaintsBro says here. Hartley has a strong enough leg but he looks scared and uncertain every time he goes to kick. It's no wonder that Payton yelled at him about having his head down and shouted, "Have some nuts!"

If the game's on the line and Hartley is up to kick, I can't watch. No really, I go somewhere until it's over.

The horror!
