Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

1 Attachment(s)
The former Saints (and most recently Broncos) cornerback is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. All of his faults considered, Tracy Porter would be a good investment for the New Orleans Saints secondary.

Why? He was benched in Denver and looked awful his last season here. I'm skeptical that he's suddenly gotten better.

My main interest would be the vet minimum part.

He's not very big or physical but he's fast. Maybe he just didn't fit Denvers scheme. I have no issues brining him back at a reasonable cost.

I'd be OK with that I guess. Is there a vet sub-minimum?

I'd rather bring in some younger up and comers. Rob Ryan likes man-press CB's that can re-route WR's off the line. I'm not sure Tracy gives us that press part.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

He was let go for shoddy coverage in 2010 and 2011, then got benched in 2012 by the broncos for the same thing allowing 3 TD's in one game

Why would we re-sign him?

FinSaint 02-15-2013 09:01 AM

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

He wasn't re-signed for a reason, and I doubt he would fit Ryan's scheme any better than he did GW's during his last season with the Saints.

Thanks for the memories, but no thank you to his future services.

Talk about being a poor open field tackler...

Yeah, thanks for the memories but I would rather develop new, young healthy guys.

Well... The altitude was a medical concern for him, he discovered... Yeah... As a backup for the min.... Possibilities there.

We let him go for a reason and that reason is still there.

I'll always love the guy - but no. If he came uber-cheap for depth, and I mean uber UBER cheap. I don't see it, and frankly we've got some talent we just need someone to use it properly IMO.

He could be an excellent nickel back, but how much is a nickel back worth?

It was so suspicious him going down hill after the superbowl. I think the premadonna effect socked him. I'm not in on this idea.

We will always love Tracy Porter for obvious reasons, but back when he became a free agent I was fine with letting him walk for previously stated reasons. So I'm gonna add another "No" to the question.

No way. Dude mailed it in after he won the SB.

Great appreciation to Tracy Porter for two of the key interceptions of our championship season. He also is local kid from Port Allen which was always part of his appeal. I think the seizures he suffers from are starting to become an issue which most teams are afraid to deal with. Tracy like Darren Sharper are great memories of the best season in Saints history.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

That head/neck injury he had was actually pretty serious business and is precisely the sort of thing that can make a guy "lose a step" and maybe never get it back. Recovering from that type of injury can also affect a player psychologically in a game of split seconds and takes a long time to heal and come back from. I absolutely do not think he was "mailing it in" or wasn't trying, or was reading too much of his own press.

Your right on SB48 and i believe Denver saw what your saying. He has done his time and the injuries are to great to overcome. Someone will need him and i hope hes in it for the love of the game and not a one more lick to an NFL team for another quick million signing bonus.

Its the offseason and they can't think of anything better to speculate. That would just be stupid.Even at the vet minimum I wouldn't take him. We have better with more of an upside in White and Mack for cheaper. Also whats all this appeal with local players? If they come from here does that automatically make it a good signing? It seems like a lot of people would rather the home town boy with mediocre talent than someone who actually has talent. To me weather or not they come from here makes no difference. I love how everyone wants to jump on any LSU players they can think of. Even though more LSU players than not turn out to be busts in the NFL. Some guy on the other board wanted to TRADE to get T bob Hebert.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

I'm not going to say yes or no...

BUT the man gave me THE HAPPIEST TWO moments of my Saints-loving life. His "point to the endzone salute" is worth more to me than any other gesture ever made by a Saint.

Who the F*** released Darren Sharper, so that he could LEAD the Saints to that Super Bowl victory... I can't remember. So, HE was "washed up" to some other coach and team, right?

We carry so much dead F****** weight, that I think Porter should have died an old-age natural death before we released that PORTER POSTER HERO.

LOCK THIS THREAD WITH THIS POST.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

If I recall correctly it was Minnesota who "let" Sharper go, but it was more about the money than Shaper not fitting into their system or them not being satisfied with his performances.

In the age of strict salary caps and free agency teams won't be able to hold on to all of their star players, and that will benefit other teams looking to add a star player to their roster (and having the cap space to do it).

How bout signing Sheldon Price in the draft. Watch the youtube videos of him at UCLA. He is going to be dangerous.

Re: Saints Should Consider Re-Signing Tracy Porter

Woodson is out of work because of the $10 million he was due. If we are $20 million over the cap, well it just can't happen. I doubt he'll play for a huge salary cut.

Well, the last time I checked the altitude was lower in New Orleans than in Denver. Evidently, unbeknownst to him, the rarified air caused him his medical issue.

But he was hurt a lot when with the Saints before that which caused him to be demoted to a nickel CB at the end of his tenure... those problems weren't probably caused by Denver's high altitude..?

And can't you remember how bad his open field tackling was? I mean he makes Robinson look like Winfield out there.
