Team-by-team look at who would/could/should be tagged

New Orleans Saints: Left tackle Jermon Bushrod is the most obvious candidate for the tag. But the Saints don’t have the cap space to spare. They easily replaced guard Carl Nicks with Ben Grubbs last year, and the tackle market is far more plentiful in 2013 than the market was for guards last season. Defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis doesn’t project to nose tackle in the team’s new 3-4 defense, but he could be a candidate to play defensive end in Rob Ryan’s defense, if the Saints want to fork over the money necessary to keep him around. Things would get interesting if the Saints tag Ellis as a tackle despite a desire to move him to end, since there’s a $2.6 million gap between the two tenders.

The only thing Ellis will get is a tag on his luggage.

Florio is nothing more than a professional bull****ter

How could tagging Ellis ever seem like a good idea?

Answer: it doesn't, but he has lines to fill up.

Lmfao!! Yeah! Ellis will get tagged as soon as Payton invites Goodell out for beers.

Give him a ticket tag back to Chino CA!! We should request a refund for the lack of services in NOLA!

I must admit, as ridiculous as it sounds I'm intrigued withthe Ellis-to-DE comment.

I can sort of see him playing that strongside DE which does require a DE/DT hybrid since they're taking on 2 gaps.

Or maybe its the off-season and I'm bored and desperate for a football discussion?

Thoughts on the move?

Wouldn't work.

Ellis has shown that he can't take on double teams at the LOS successfully and constantly, and in fact this past season he was free from double teams as Bunkley and Johnson were given doubles beside him (maybe Hicks as well, but I remember occasions with the other two for certain). Only, even on those occasions Ellis was negated quite easily by the opposition's guards - hard to think he'd fair any better against a guard and a tackle or an OT and a TE.

His strength isn't enough for guards and his athleticism isn't enough for tackles, and he doesn't have particularly long arms which further complicates taking on double teams... I just can't see him fitting in.

I would be flabbergasted if the Saints announced the re-signing of Ellis this offseason - and definitely not with positive undertones.
