Will Smith, Vilma and Harper ...

I don't see any of these three fitting into Ryan's 3-4 scheme. That begs the question : why are they still on the payroll ? What's the holdup on releasing them ? Are we seriously considering keeping them ? If so ... why ?

I'd only keep Vilma. He doesn't fit, but he actually wants to try to fit contrary to his time in NY.

I guess Smith could do a decent job stopping the run in a 3-4. I say cut him, but oh well.

As for Roman...hes slow, and he can't cover. He wants to hit, but he can't tackle. He loves to play in the box, but he's not really a linebacker. I say use him similar to the way the Honey Badger was used.....unless we get the honey badger himself.

Because if you just release them and don't get anything for them, which we won't, then they still hit our cap space and we are down 3 players for nothing.

Not arguing the rest except maybe the Mellivora capensis part, but he has lead the Saints in tackling the past 3 or so years. Maybe we could cut him, but still keep his neck...

Harper is as fast as most SS's and covers exactly like SS's are supposed to. I've heard conflicting reports about Ryan's preference at safety. Some say he prefers the Strong/Free set up (one in the box / one in center field) and some say he prefers a Right / Left combo.

If he prefers Right/Left, Harpers not a great fit. If he prefers strong/Free, Jenkins isn't such a hot fit.

Vima is a pretty good fit at the weakside ILB. He did not play that position in NY's 3-4.

Smith is the odd man out to me. I'd like to keep him, but I think he's better suited as a 4-3 DE somewhere else.

That's a very good question. I was wondering the same.

I don't think the problem is fitting into Ryan's scheme as much as it is fitting into the 123 million cap.

How much money would the Saints lose if they were cut ? or wouldn't that put us UNDER the cap ? I'd like to see some younger, faster, hungrier players replacing these three at some point ...

Harper does play much better in the box. I believe Rex runs the strong/free. I'd prefer old man Adrian Wilson for a year or two, but that's just me. I like elite coverage safeties. We shouldn't need our safety to blitz to be effective. But if we're going to use a Roman Harper style player, we might as well go after Laron Landry. A bigger, faster, and stronger version.

ROMAN HARPER IS TRADED ALREADY just nobody knows cause that's tampering! The Will Smith situation is a little different he's on the books for 5mil in dead money causr we didn't cut him last year all we did is make it harder to do this year He's Gone and Vilma knows he's just rotational player now and isn't going to command a big salary! I see Roman Harper getting traded to either St Louis or Tenn!
