To ***** about the wins and loses at the mid-level free agency signings is to show an ignorance of how the NFL works. We have a great GM/HC combination. Let them do their job. They have proven to be pretty damn good at it so far.

I think most, if not everyone in here understands the importance of roll players, so you're right about that. But that's not really the issue at hand. We have plenty of mid level talent, already, and without a doubt they'll find some more of those guys. But the defense needs more than that, and we're all rather curious as to how it's holes are going to be filled, given our cap situation.

No, the list was to show that claiming "we NEVER score in free-agency" was shortsighted.

Many of the players I listed were signed to be roll players. They were not signed to be the next Drew Brees.

Thats our approach to free agency and its a good one. Sign roll players and mid-tier players to fill holes in order to draft BPA. If the occasion arises to sign a high dollar stud like Brees then take it.

I think your definition of score is a bit off, or at the least, we interpret it much differently. I don't think the person you were replying to, originally, was saying that we haven't signed decent role players. A score is getting a major contributor.

Also though, you listed some players who were rookie free agents, which is a different animal. It's easy to sign RFA's, and you can sign a ton without any real risk. Most of them get cut within weeks. And some of the players on that list just weren't, or aren't any good.

Tom Johnson is just another preseason warrior. Bunkley, to this point, has not validated his contract. De la peunta was somebody we signed off the shelf during a training camp. McCray had his moments, but was mostly ineffective, and he was given too much money to be a role player. He was expected to be a starter who could come in and post at least 9 or 10 sacks. And guys like Prioleau and Reis were just special teamers. Decent special teamers, and I'm not downplaying their importance, but those aren't the type of players I think of as being a "score".

This doesn't mean the Saints have done a bad job, though they've made some mistakes in free agency. I just think that list was a bit exaggerated.

Chris Reis, "laughable"?

Come on man... you want us to give the Lombardi back or something? Ever heard of AMBUSH, "blue ball, blue ball" Hank Baskett -- is any of this ringing any bells with you?

I mean I know he's not a Hall of Fame superstar but really, SMH at that one. Plus ragging on Sharper, only one year -- but take away those pick 6's of his and see what you got left that "only one year." Hint: it ain't 13-3 and it ain't home field.

Sheez. Tough crowd.

your missing the point my friend. when presenting an argument that negates my points dont throw chris reis at me. a good point he made would be sproles as an example. we need an immediate impact player on defense NOW. Brees is getting no younger and by the looks of last year...not any better either. The elephant in the room is brees' "highest paid player in the league" contract. cut that in half or 1/3 and you get 2 immediate starters on defense. you get yourself a cliff avril instead of begging will smith to restructure. obviously im not privy to all the details of the saints organization, but as a fan, like i stated....Free Agency is tough to watch.
Teams sign people left and right and we the guys that no one wants, two weeks after. we get depth at best who end up starting. i bet 1/2 of our Def wouldnt start on a top 10 defensive team. the free agent starters/ weekly contributors are signed in the first few days of FA....not at the end.
