A new perspective...FA landscape changing?

Gil Brandt‏@Gil_Brandt

Receieved 3 calls from agents yesterday saying first wave of FA all dried up. Def. a buyer's market. Guys having trouble getting 1-yr deals.

The longer we wait the more chances of being successful with our FA signings. Let all the over hyped players go somewhere else. Let Loomis do his job. He knows what he's doing I think.
Now we can get to signing the players that we value.

(a) the worldwide recession is catching up to the NFL (b) the runaway salaries have maxed out and now will have to go down, as the fixed reality of the cap and the new CBA sets in (c) high-priced top-dollar free agency is just not that big a deal anymore, this is something the Saints and Loomis have actually been in the forefront of the trend, moving away from it for years, ahead of the rest of the pack, and some people don't give them credit for it...I guess they just want them to sign people with big names for the sake of signing people with big names.

I like it. I never understood the point in players signing these large contracts filled with f-aux money. A majority of players never see the back end of their contract. It was all for show.

It's for the guaranteed money.

The new CBA has made rookie contracts so much more affordable that I think a lot of teams are hoping that investing on draftees is the way to go, especially with the uncertainty hanging over the cap development going forward.

Yeap The rookie pay scale along with a whole boatload of talent on the Defensive side of the ball! Factor in flat cap for the next 2 seasons equals buyers market!
