if we go better then 7-9 this year, jim haslett would have done better with them in his first 5 years then holmgren has with seattle in his first 5. n people r calling for him to be fired r u kidding me

Holmgreen also had sort of a job security cushion by winning a SB in Green Bay. Also, I think he would have been fired if he didn\'t make the playoffs last year.

oh i didnt say what the expectations were this year only that it takes a while to build a winner n haslett should be given the same. we r headed there. n we will continue to improve our d over the next couple of year n i expect us to make the playoffs this year. dont u? i really do. i wasnt so sure last year n there seems to be something different about this team. i could be wrong it is completely possible but i think we make the playoffs. but i agree with ur post. but im not ready to fire haslett just yet. although if we play the same way as last year then i would agree there has to be a problem

UMMMMMMM FIRST QUIT COMPARING HASLETT TO HOLMGREN. HOLMGREN IS A PROVEN COACH WHO HAD WON A SB. HASLLET 1 PLAYOFF GAME AND SINCE THEN GOING 24-24.
HOLMGREN WOULDN\'T HAVE BEEN FIRED LAST YEAR IF THEY DIDN\'T MAKE PLAYOFFS. EVERYBODY IN THE ORGANIZATION AND EVEN THE GM HAS SAID THAT HE HAD NO PRESSURE. HE HAD TO GET THE RIGHT PERSONNEL AND THEIR BETTER WERE JUST A .500 BALL CLUB

YOU KNOW ITS BAD IF THE SAINTS ARE WORSE THAN THE SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I\'m rooting for Haslet as hard as I can, but if the Saints don\'t make the playoffs this year (I don\'t care if we\'re 10-6), fire him. He\'s had plenty of time to get this team going.

In the playoffs and a decent showing in the game is the minimum he\'d have to do for me to keep him if I were Benson.

Agreed. 10-6. playoffs. decent showing. he keeps his job. new defensive coordinator. a couple of nice defensive free agent signings/draft picks. this team could be a contender.

i understand what ur tryin to say spkb25, except that holmgren\'s team has improved from when he first got there and ours has declined

spkb25, Man I agree with you, something does seem different this year and I really think we will do well and make the playoffs. I see the saints going 10-6. Heh, I have to admit I am optimistic every year. I too am hoping Haslett can prove himself and keep his job.

How can you possibly say that? Any rational analysis of the situations both coaches inherited and the jobs they\'ve done since couldn\'t legitimately come to that conclusion. In fact, the realistic conclusion to come to is that Haslett has actually done a better job than Holmgren, all things considered.

In the four years before Holmgren was hired by Seattle, the Seahawks had registered seasons of 8-8, 7-9, 8-8, and 8-8; a .484 clip. There was one losing season. In the five years under Holmgren, the Seahawks played to a .586 winning percentage, and had losing records in his second year and fourth year there. He registered 9 wins his first season and then 7 and 10 in his last two.

In the four seasons before Haslett was hired in NO, the Saints went 3-13, 6-10, 6-10, and 3-13; a .281 clip. They obviously were all losing seasons. In the four seasons under Haslett, the Saints played to a .531 winning percentage, and had a losing record in his second season only. He registered 10 wins his first season, and 9 and 8 in his last two.

Now, who brought his team farther, faster? And incidentally, if you only look at Holmgren\'s first four years, to corelate to Haslett having had four years so far, you find that Holmgren took a team that had played .484 ball for four years and coached them up to......484 ball. Identical record. With 9 and then 7 wins in his last two seasons.

If you guys are going to compare Haslett to Holmgren, tell me where Haslett\'s rings are. That\'s all I care about.

The only comparison to the two coaches is that Haslett isn\'t as fat as Holmgren ;)

Haslett doesn\'t have one. Holmgren\'s is where it belongs....on Brett Favre\'s finger.

Technically, Brett\'s ring is on Brett\'s finger, and Holmgren\'s is on Holmgren\'s finger. So you\'re also gonna tell me that Gibbs\' ring is on Theisman\'s finger? lololol- how droll.

Of course not....Gibbs brings four different Redskin teams to the Bowl with four different QBs, so obviously the important ingredient was the coach, not Joe Theisman..LOL. But in Holmgren\'s case, when you consider how Brett Favre essentially carried that championship Packer team and willed it to win (unlike now, when Ahman Green and perhaps others are just as big a part of their success as Favre), and look at the success (and sometime lack thereof) that Holmgren has had without Favre....I\'d say Gibbs and Holmgren are completely different stories.

You know what, you\'re right. Holmgren was a patsy, we all know that Favre was the real coach of those teams. I hope the NFL reads this, maybe they can put an asterisk next to Holmgren\'s name in the history books.
