Roman Harper Restructuring?

1 Attachment(s)
I've got nothing confirmed yet, but starting to see buzz on twitter about Harper restructuring to save 4.2ish M in cap space.

With the recent influx of big names visiting Nnamdi (Today), room will have to be made.

Re: Roman Harper Restructuring?

Brad Jones GB ILB and/or Victor Butler, DE/OLB, Cowboys?

Two 34 backup LBs that have shown great signs of being ready to become starters.

If the rumors are true FA are having troubles getting long term contracts now so we could add even one more with 4 million in cap space. we pulled it off last year.

now the down side is if say either Jones or Butler become starters you have to resign them next year to a bigger contract.

both positions are concerns but i am now leaning to Brad Jones over Victor Butler

prefer both ;)

I need a bit more than just a "buzz on twitter" to take this seriously.

Re: Roman Harper Restructuring?

If he doesn't restructure, he should be cut. I like Harper. He's a solid player. But, he doesn't deserve nor will he get elite safety money on the open market.

Re: Roman Harper Restructuring?

i am sure they already have most of this worked out already. i would not be surprised to see a new contract agreed upon already sitting on the desk waiting for the right player to arrive.

Yes he does. He could refuse, we then cut him and he signs elsewhere for around 3 mill per season plus a new signing bonus etc...

A truer thread title is "Do the Saints Have a Choice?"

Cut Harper and sign Reed, that would be a good choice

Why is it that everyone appears to be restructuring except the ONLY player who makes over 20% of the cap?

There was a write-up on this a week or so ago. His current contract is already structured fairly cap friendly for us this year and next. It escaltes pretty quickly a few years down the road.

The bottom line is restructuring his contract now would make it devastating for us in just a couple years.

Because he will need to restructure next year or the year after.
Restructuring now would make his cap numbers bigger later.
Leave that poker(Brees Contract) in the fire to be used later

Harper can continue to be part of the problem, or re-structure and be a part of the solution!

A clean turd is still a turd. Cut him.

Re: Roman Harper Restructuring?

At least five people here have said to cut Harper. Surprised to still be hearing this. Cutting Harper doesn't help us. He'd still count for over 6 million against the cap and we'd be with out a strong safety. Who are we going to hire for 1 million it would save us to cut him?

Plus I don't think Harper is as bad as some people seem to think he is. Most strong safeties aren't very good in coverage. That's why they're strong safeties. Yeah he's way overpaid but cutting him now just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Re: Roman Harper Restructuring?

I would rather a hot pocket take a roster spot than him.

You're right , never looked to see if cutting him would benefit. I believe the number to the cap is 7.1 million

To much money not enough production, restructure is the best option at this point can't outright cut him.

Everyone else is in the twilight
Meaning the non cap friendly year or years. Drew us just in year 2, not much friendlier than it can get with out making next year worse.

Where do you see that he is still in the locker room? Scott Shanle has no contract or cap hit for 2013.

UFA= not our problem.

I would rather start Rafael Bush. He outplayed Harper. On another note we need to resign Elbert Mack

We need to start Abdul-Quddus and Rafael Bush at the safety positions. Also, agreed on keeping Elbert Mack.

I disagree. He had one pick that was a gift miscommunication between the QB/WR. Bush was 10 yards away from the WR.

I've seen nothing that suggests Bush outplayed Harper. In fact, most of the time Harper was in the box with Bush deep in our nickel packages.

I have no idea why you'd think Bush outplayed Harper.

Scott Shanle Contract, Salaries, and Transactions

Exactly, I don't see Mr. Shanle listed on the official roster:

Because Harper was abused like a $2 hooker!
