Is DB a bigger priority now?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Saints have targeted CB in FA and have had 50% success. With the signing of other FA targets with other teams does that make Drafting a DB a bigger priority? Lets look at the secondary players that could be available ...

Lets look at the secondary players that could be available at #15.K.Vaccaro S, Xavier Rhodes CB are the two players IMHO that would be available and have enough value to be picked at#15. Vaccaro is the top rated safety with all the skills necessary to play in nfl. Rhodes is a big physical CB that fits in RR scheme.
3rd DB that might be around when the Saints Pick are players like Bacarri Rambo S,Rambo has first rd talent drops because of failed drug tests.Darrius Slay CB has man coverage ability that fits RR scheme
I generally like picking big ugliest early
(OL, DL)but it seems that the FO wants to beef up the back end.Thoughts,, Ideas, Opinions?

We have no money.

Unless Drew Brees restructures his contract, there are only very minor positive moves to make regarding cap room.

We might as well start looking at 2014, because what you see now is what we got.

Bree's will restructure because we are going to need it. It may not be right away but it will happen this season.

I tend to think we will be looking at a defensive lineman or safety. Trading back if the right offer comes along will also be an option.

Re: Is DB a bigger priority now?

Corey White, big corner at 6'1" 205lbs and had flashes of a very good corner-to-be last year. If he can learn the defense fast enough, he could be the guy to start opposite of Kennan Lewis. I am not saying he is our answer right now, but could be a very nice surprise in camp. With Greer sliding to the slot, would be an upgrade on last year's Defense.

CB will not be the pick. OT or DL is a lock.

With the signing of Coleman, Lewis, and Butler... I think the defensive priority has to be safety...

Left Tackle is a bigger priority than a safety though...

Yes!

NFL rookies typically make a huge jump their 2nd year in the league. Corey actually got more playing time last year than he probably should have due to injuries.

I think he'll help us more than any 2nd/3rd day rookie CB will, and probably as much as any journeyman vet CB would.

Its still a question as to whether he's a better NFL safety (as many "experts" projected) than a CB but I like what I saw down the stretch last year before he got hurt.

Several others here also noticed his improved play as the season progressed. He was thrown to the wolves, got his ass kicked a bit, but kept on getting better. I really like this kid.
