New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees “Best in NFL”?

Does the best QB in the National Football League play for the New Orleans Saints? Drew Brees is the engine by which the Saints go. Since coming to the Saints in 2006, he has never thrown less than 4,388 yards per season. Add to this his lowest TD year (2006) of 26 touchdowns, and you can see why Brees is an NFL top gun.

This past year tested Brees, and his character came shining through. The Saints posted a 7-9 record, down dramatically from the 13-3 they posted in 2011. Head coach Sean Payton had to sit out the season with “Bounty Gate,” yet Brees still threw for 5,177 yards and 43 TD. Brees remained true to the team and loyal to his head coach. With his leadership, the Saints remarkably made it through this difficult season.

To further the “Best in NFL” discussion, let’s do a comparison to another star that has played one more year than Brees, Tom Brady.

Brady has thrown for 44,806 yards, 334 TD with only 123 INT. Brees has played one less year and has 45,919 yards, 324 TD, and 165 INT. Of course, Brady has won more super bowls and has less INT, but the numbers are astonishingly close. Ask yourself, would Brady be as good without Bill Belichick?

I think it’s Brees off-the-field activities that make the case. He is all class — he exemplifies what is good, decent, and right in the NFL. But more than that, he is a great role model for all fans to follow.

His charity work has blessed many. The Brees Dream Foundation has been a tremendous charity, and he has done major charity work with Hurricane Sandy Relief and proven his character and leadership to the entire country.

Because of his on-the-field and off-the-field presence, I think Brees deserves the title “Best in NFL.”

I'M GRATEFUL WE HAVE HIM!
Heck I was mad at Mickey last year because he was dragging his feet atleast that's what I got out of it when both sides knew what it was going to take!!

Now, there's no arguing both these guys are 'elite'.

Brady is one of those guys I've never warmed up to personally, but you have to respect him, he's a winner from his college days at University of Michigan. His claim to fame is his SuperBowl rings, but his rep is being tarnished by the fact he can't seem to win the big one anymore. Would he be as good without Belichick? I think so.

Brees is the total package, on & off the field, and that's where I think he wins the title. Doesn't have multiple SuperBowls, but he has one. Throws for 5k every season, leads his team & the NFL Players Association, family man, charitable guy, personable, a PR department's dream ... if you're any kind of a football fan, at one point or another you've wished you were Drew Brees.. Plus, he's a "man's-man" ... when he's out with Brittany, I see plenty pics of him holding her hand, but never carrying her shopping bags like Giselle has Brady do.

Damn straight he's the best in the NFL.

Hilarious, Slo-Mo.

btw, MudBugs IV will most likely be on June 1st at my awesome swamphouse in Old River, TX, halfway between Houston & Beaumont-- I heard you were interested in visiting the South.

Drew has all those slam dunk stats, which im not really a stats guy, except for
TDs vs. INTs, and I believe his are off the charts. He wins, He can win, and my favorite thing for a QB to be able to do: He can come from behind. We used to be the team that always got "Joe Montana'd." Now we have our own
magician.

I'll admit Bradu is elite but I just wonder what kind of productivity he could have with the worst D in history cutting into his TOP...Drew was the Saints last year and even with the worst D, tons of drops, and fumbles we fall barely short of .500. I just don't see Brady being able to do that. Hands down 'Best in the NFL' and '1st ballot HOF'.

So are you saying Giselle is the better leader?

Carrying shopping bags is not the definition of a man.

Wishing you had one more finger so you could bring in all the groceries in one trip is a man. You know you do it.. 10 fingers, at least 10 grocery bags.. bumping the door frame and all.

Good debate but you'll never have a true answer. Even if Drew ever matches him in Super Bowl wins it's a team sport.

Drew has been one of the greatest. I know nobody wants to admit it but Drew is past his prime with his best years behind him. He will start to decline every year and to stay competitive our team surrounding him must get better to compensate. Unfortunately with Drews contract we don't have the money to add the talent needed to compensate for Drews decline. The days of Drew carrying the team on his back are near over if not already.

TEAM **** we had half a team I believe the offense could've played better D than Spags had running out there his ego had him narrowed minded and not using the players strengths because it conflicted maybe a little to his scheme, but He's gone and I'm happy to have Rob!
O YEA DREW IS THE DEFINITION OF FRANCHISE QB and YES HE'S THE BEST QB WE COULD HAVE IN #NOLA, #whodat_land #whodat

Brady isn't the best. He hasn't won since spygate. How many Super Bowls would Drew have if we knew the opposing teams' defensive signals??

IMO, the distinction in Brady's/Patriots 3 Super Bowl wins vs Brees'/Saints 1 is in points.

If the Pats hadn't had a good FG kicker, they would be winless in Super Bowls; the Pats total margin of victory in their 3 is 9 points!

The Saints were up a TD on the Colts until Porter got his pick 6 to seal the win.

Every year Brees gets a year older-Fact
As a player reaches a certain age their production begins to drop off-Fact
We have very limited cap space due mostly in part to Brees contract-Fact
The only reason we have been as successful as we have with our defense is because of Brees-Fact

You take away some of Brees playmaking ability you must add more talent to compensate. Our cap situation is only going to get worse.

His play started to decline last year.

Re: New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees “Best in NFL”?

I have to disagree. What if we had even the twenty eighth ranked defense last year? We couldve ran the ball a little and not be playing behind as much. Brees had to force things always playing behind and bad play calling. How old was Payton last year and he is coming off that injury. We will be back next season and Brees will DOMINATE once again.

Every year so does Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, etc.

As a player reaches a certain age their production begins to drop off. Where is the drop off in the production of Tom Brady, Payton/Eli Manning, Aaron Rodgers, etc?

The Saints have been waiting for over 60 years for a QB like Brees; so you are willing to let Brees walk. Correct me if I am wrong, but did Brees ASK the Saints for that contract. I guarantee you this, if Brees made it to a FA, he would've gotten offered a helluva lot more money than the Saints offered!

Our cap situation is only going to get worse
Have players like Will Smith, Vilma, to name a few, played to the value of their contracts like Brees?

The only reason we have been as successful as we have with our defense is because of Brees-Fact
This fact alone make argument moot!!

You take away some of Brees playmaking ability... Other than God, who is taking away some of Brees' play-making abolity?

His play started to decline last year. Considering the circumstances Brees had to play under, namely no HC, and interim head coach, saddled with the worst defense in NFL history, I think Brees did an outstanding job last year!!

Glad to hear that! I got caught up committing to a bunch of walleye fishing tournaments before I realized they were all in April and going to interfere with my Mudbugs IV plans,. It's back on like donkey-kong!

... and now that I've sufficiently hijacked this thread, I'll retire to the MudBugs IV thread for further discussion,.

What argument do you think is moot? Did I say anywhere that I want to let Brees walk? Im just saying he's getting older and we are in bad shape because of his contract. Don't see that we really had any choice but to sign him as there is nobody better out there that we could get. Or would want. The thread is about weather or not Brees is the best QB in the league. I agree that arguably he was, but think it is unlikely that he will be again. Same goes for Brady, Payton, and Rodgers, although Rodgers is a little younger and has not been on the field near as long.

Bottom line is that our window is closing fast, unless we can pull some real bull**** out of our asses. Which has been done under the current staff so we will see.

What makes you think that? He has not shown any signs of decline, hell he threw for 5000+ yards last year without Payton...

Just a few facts to throw into the conversation...

National Football League Most Valuable Player Award (NFL MVP)

Peyton Manning Four Time MVP (4) '03, '04, '08, '09,
Tom Brady Two Time MVP (2) '07, '10
Aaron Rodgers MVP (1) '11
Drew Brees No LMVP (0) None
Joe Flacco No LMVP (0) None

Joe Flacco is the highest paid QB in the NFL...

Drew Brees is the highest paid QB in the NFL net taxes...
