Experience In A 3-4?

I konow Cam Jordan has experience in a 3-4 and I think Bunkley has played it too. Butler will have played it under RR as well as Coleman. Does Martez Wilson have experince in the 3-4?
The reason I ask is I would like to get a feel for our timing in the transition from the 4-3 to a 3-4. We play a good offense with a new running game when we kick off the season against Atlanta. Apparently the secondary doesn't require as much time with the transition since we will probably be running man with our corners.jmho
Atlanta will probably score points but we need to be able to slow them down defensively.
Can RR install his version of the 3-4 in one off season?

Martez has experience in the 3-4 however......he was the middle backer in the 3-4 at college and now he'll be pass rushing outside, I cant wait to see the battle between Martez, Junior and Butler for snaps at OLB

Re: Experience In A 3-4?

Is this a 3-4 thread or a playing the clowns thread?

It sounds like even saying 3-4 isn't that simple. From what I'm hearing, Rob's 3-4 almost leans to a hybrid kind of 4-3 at times. That should make things a little easier for most of our guys who haven't played a 3-4 yet -unless we re-sign Ellis or Shanle. We are pulling in some players who have experience with it too to help mentor.

If you're talkin' about playin' the clowns, we still have our secret weapon -half time. Smith can't seem to make adjustments for crap.

Most of these guys have played some version of a 3-4 nearly every year they've been in the league.

Spags ran an occasional 3-4 set and Williams ran a ton of it.

I think Payton noticed our best athletes played their best ball when we were in 3-4 sets, so it was probably a pretty easy decision to convert to the 3-4 as our base.

I'd imagine we'll still run some 4-3 this year too.

I can't help but wonder if signing/drafting players like Galette, Wilson, Bunkley, Hicks, Jordan were part of the plan to eventually convert to a 3-4 all along.

I've wondered the same thing.......but then why would they hire a 4-3 coach last year?:saintsfan:

I have no earthly idea Dale. Maybe because several of our respected veterans were best suited for a 4-3?

Vilma, Ellis, and Smith are all 4-3 players to a T. Maybe they thought that 2012 would be their last shot? After all Hicks would make a great 4-3 DT (3-tech) and maybe Spags could elevate Ellis' game, and Vilma played better in a 4-3 and...

Hell, I don't friggin know.:dunce: I thought it was a good idea too at first.

I'd love to hear Payton explain why he thought it was a good idea.

The spen hacks have us going 8-8 this year. I say we make the playoffs 28 or better.

We don't do crap once we get there, but we get there.
