Weakside linebacker Derrick Rodgers admittedly did not bring his 'A' game to the Saints' season-opening 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at the Superdome.

But, in his opinion, some of the fans in attendance weren't at their best, either.

Rodgers said he noticed an inordinate number of empty seats at the Superdome. Capacity is 64,900. Team and Superdome officials declined to disclose the number of no-shows, citing club and league policy -- but the fans in attendance got Rodgers' attention.

"Please, tell the fans to quit all that booing," said Rodgers, a native of New Orleans who prepped at St. Augustine. "Sure, we hear it. I understand fans want to voice their disappointment and their disapproval, but support us.

"If it didn't matter to me, then I wouldn't say anything about it. I've been through it here. I've seen all the bags and stuff. I understand ticket prices are kind of high, but come to the game to support our team. That's disappointing to me."

Saints tight end Ernie Conwell echoed Rodgers' sentiments.

"I don't necessarily like when you get booed in your own home because it gives energy to the opponent," he said. "Our fans have been great, and I just ask that they keep believing in us and encouraging us.

"And when we come out Sunday against San Francisco, get on those guys. Make this a tough place for teams to come in here and play. One game doesn't (make) a season."

SELLOUT ASSURED: Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers at the Superdome has been declared a sellout, extending the team's consecutive home sellout streak to 32 games.

Some tickets will remain on sale this week due to NFL and visiting team returns.

Also, about 4,600 tickets remain for the Saints' home game against Tampa Bay on Oct. 10.


INJURY REPORT: Saints defensive tackle Brian Young (left hip flexor), defensive tackle Howard Green (ankle), defensive end Darren Howard (neck) and cornerback Jason Craft (left ankle) are hobbled.

Saints coach Jim Haslett said all four would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

Craft said he likely would not be able to play against the 49ers.

QB DORSEY TO START: San Francisco quarterback Ken Dorsey is expected to make his first NFL start Sunday against the Saints after Tim Rattay was diagnosed with a separated right shoulder.

Coach Dennis Erickson said Dorsey, the former University of Miami standout and a seventh-round draft pick in 2003, will start against New Orleans unless Rattay's injury heals much more quickly than expected. The 49ers don't know how long Rattay will be hindered by the injury.

"He's ready for it," Erickson said of Dorsey. "We have a lot of confidence in him, or else we wouldn't do it. It doesn't have to do with anything other than Tim's health."

Rattay was hurt while getting sacked by Atlanta's Rod Coleman in the second quarter of the 49ers' 21-19 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.

PERSONNEL MATTERS: Saints officials resigned running back Ki-Jana Carter, increasing New Orleans' roster to the league maximum of 53.

Carter was waived Saturday and missed Sunday's game against the Seahawks.

BY THE NUMBERS: 9 -- Tackles by Saints left defensive end Charles Grant against Seattle, a career high. 11 -- game-high tackles by Saints rookie middle linebacker Courtney Watson, who became dehydrated in the third quarter and left the game. 2 -- tackles by Saints rookie right defensive end Will Smith in his matchup against Seattle's four-time Pro Bowl left tackle Walter Jones. "Will had his hands full," Haslett said. "He was going against a great player. He was thrown to the wolves. It wasn't up to Will's standards or probably ours, either."

WORTH REPEATING: "It's not going to hit here." -- Haslett on whether Hurricane Ivan will strike New Orleans.

Sellout and Blackout are not the same thing since there\'s a 72 hour deadline for the blackout. So a game can be blacked out because it didn\'t sell 72 hours before the game. Then fans who want to see the game rush to buy the rest of the tickets and the game is a sellout. Of course there can still be empy seats because folks who have tickets decide not to attend the game. So that\'s how you can get a sold out, blacked out game with empty seats. Clear?

They can spend some of the fan\'s hard-earned money on earplugs and tissue as far as I\'m concerned. That team was flat from the start and all of it can\'t be contributed to just the coaching staff. Once again, the players who have been there a fraction of the time most of us fans have , just don\'t get it. Whine to a different crowd, I want to see a frickin\' win on a consistent basis or get the **** out of Dodge! My therapist said it was healthy to vent..... :mad2:
