The Saints are counting on guys that couldn't get serious PT on the worst defense in NFL history and other teams rejects to become quality starters. What was needed was playmakers in the front seven. Either pass rushers or disruptive forces. What they got was another DB that will be asked to cover WRs while the QB makes himself a sandwich and waves to the crowd before launching it downfield under no pressure.

I agree we need talent up front, but I'm not that negative about it. You make it sound like the season is over already. I'm curious how Ryan uses the talent that is actually on the defense because there's NO WAY we could have filled enough positions in one offseason to make that defense top in the NFL>

Besides, if the Saints have an average defense, the team is majorly potent.

see i think we have solid defensive players. i expect growing pains and a turnover on defense of say 40% in 2 to 3 years. we need picks

Ryan knows LB so i have to trust him a bit there but the turnover battle is a major factor we need to address asap. lets see what the rest of the draft brings

I agree, it is a monumental task overhauling the D in one season with no cap room. I didnt expect the D to be greatly better. I did expect a pick that made much better sense.

That's totally fair. I agree.
We just won't know the impact of this kid until we see him in uniform.

I guess I'm having trouble understanding what pick you would have made at #15? A linebacker with injury problems that ran nearly a 4.9 40 yard dash that will have trouble getting to the outside in Jones? Or a 4-3 DT in Floyd? According to Profootballfocus.com, our biggest red flag was safety. Jenkins and Harper ranked last in their positions. Certifiably terrible. This pick makes perfect sense to me.

With a slightly better than below average defense, this team can be dangerous. Things will be fine, Rob will find a way to play to player strengths

Vacarro reaction times were stupid good. That's what you need in a safety and what puts you in position to make plays. It gives you that extra tenth of a second you miss in foot speed. It's call BRAINS.

Not a fan of the pick. Unless Jenkins moves to corner, at best Vaccaro is only going to be a situational guy and someone who comes in on sub-packages. Certainly not the impact the Saints needed or the #15 slot demands. The trade the Vikes gave the Pats for their late pick has more value than Vaccaro. No impact in free agency and no impact from the draft. Sean and Rob are going to have to work some magic or it's going to be another .500 season.

:stupid: And trust him, he's an insurance agent and would know. His entire paycheck depends on reaction times and how fast he can fill out a form with a pen.

That extra tenth of a second means the difference between Select Silver Value Coverage and Platinum Premium Super Deluxe Code Blue Coverage. :D

Man darn there everyone here is a pessimist !

Our Division has Cam Newton , Matt Ryan and Josh Freeman ...

Atlanta has a Stable of Elite Pass Catchers Carolina Got Hixon And Smith , and Vaccaro at least Nutralizes all the attacking passwise on our defense. Great Pick , with him at least its not open season to throw the Ball on us anymore.
