Kenny Vaccaro: "I am Happy to be a New Orleans Saint"

Q: I know you visited with the Saints during this process. How do you feel like you fit in with this team considering on defense, theyve had two starting safeties for a little while?

A: Im excited to come down there and play. It was my last visit and I just had a really good feeling walking out of there that I might be a Saint. Im excited to get down there and play some football.

Q: How do you feel like you will fit in with this defense?
A: Im versatile (and) I can do a lot of different things. I dont think I have a lot of limitations. I can cover and (handle) run support so I think I can bring that to the team.

Q: You played both free and strong safety at Texas. Do you know how the Saints plan to use you?

A: I dont even know. I plan on doing whatever they tell me to do.

Q: Throughout this process how much were the Saints in touch with you?
A: My agent usually does all the talking to the teams and stuff, but yes they showed interest the whole process and the visit went really well for me so I had a good feeling.

Q: What are some of the things you need to work on?

A: I think you can always get better as far as tackling technique the way the rules are changing. You have to fit guys in different areas, so you have to change your technique. But like I said, Ive perfected my craft and my goal is to be the most complete safety I can be and I think I have gotten to that point.

Q: You only had five interceptions in three years at Texas, was that more because offenses were throwing away from you or the system at Texas?

A: I was always the nickel and a lot of times when maybe an interception was thrown (it was) because I was locking up the slot receiver on the other side of the field. I actually got offered a spot as a receiver when I first got there so my ball skills are pretty good and I think thats the reason.

Q: What were your impressions of Rob Ryan?
A: We talked a little bit at lunch and I just told my agent that I would love to come and play for him. We hit it off. He is a high energy guy, laid back, but takes football seriously and thats the type of person I am to the team.

Yeah, there's already been some griping that he supposedly can't catch, but I'm assuming that people are looking at his lack of INT's, and haven't actually seen him try to catch a football. Who knows how many chances he had? I don't watch Texas football, so I sure don't know. I do know that from what film I've seen, and what I've read, there wasn't a better safety out there.

Yeah agreed, People saying he can't catch should watch this video, the interception he makes at 3:29 is a catch a wide receiver would be proud of to be honest

i trust my texas alumni family and friends that are die hards as all texans are.

It might not be his hands. they pointed more than once we will watch balls slip through his hands and drop to the turf. It is more a concentration issue, he seems more worried about what he is going to do after the int than making the int. his numbers should be a whole lot better.

yep been on the phone. other than that they like the pick for us. putting that texas loyalty aside. just give him a few years is the overall verdict and with coaching we could be very happy

+1. Saw him twice this year down in Austin and quite frankly I like his center field awareness & tackling ability. He wasn't a intercepting 'machine' but he had the knack for breaking up the deep ball. IMO this was a SOLID pick for our secondary and I'm glad he is on our team.

After having seen all of his interceptions on youtube, I will say this: Those are balls that Roman Harper definitely would have DROPPED.

Yeah but UT fans think you should catch everything evn though you stretched out and dove 7 feet just to make contact with the ball.
