Grade The Draft

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I think it was an OK draft - not outstanding, but far from being a disappointment. Combining these picks with the UDFAs and with some of the picks from last year who went un- or underutilized like Toon, Tiller and ...

Combining these picks with the UDFAs and with some of the picks from last year who went un- or underutilized like Toon, Tiller and Jones (and White) - I think the Saints are building a nice depth talent-wise at key positions.

We did ok....for 5 picks. I've grown to respect the Saints ability to spot small school guys (ala Akiem Hicks) so I'm good with Rufus as well. Looks good on paper....gotta translate to the field. Remember, we cant be good in the NFC, we gotta be ALL-DAY-GREAT to win it.

Re: Grade The Draft

With Our Given Defense of Last Years " Worst Ever " I feel we've gotten 2 Sure Fire Starters Perhaps 3 In Vaccaro , Jenkins In Rotation , and from Game Tape of Rufus Johnson is by Far the best pass rusher we have ...

Brees Has Turned a Hofstra WR into a potential HOF'er I'm sure Stills running a 4.38 Can be of something special as well

Re: Grade The Draft

Im happy with it.

None of the players stand out as game changing picks, but to me it looks a very solid class. The UDFA topped of a good draft in my eyes, especially Chase Thomas.I dont think there was a reach barring the last pick.
Had we had a 2nd rounder i think it would have taken the draft up another notch.
I just wonder if Jenkins would have fell to us in the 4th rather than move up and gained another 4th rounder.Having said that, that was the man the coaches obviously really liked to anchor the defense in years to come and i dont think you can complain too much about the front office being aggressive and getting there man.

Overall it looks like a solid pro draft rather than a boom or bust

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

I don't love Vaccaro, but the other picks are all solid to brilliant.

Our last pick was the weakest, but its a low risk high reward type of project. I can live with that.

I love every other pick. I'd give us an A-minus, maybe a B-Plus because of the small school project at the end.

I think most of them won't contribute until 2014, but the draft is for the long run, not immediate. Jenkins and Vicarro should contribute at once, but the LT, WR and DE are probably gonna wait until 2014.
I agree, except to say that I think Armstead will at least make a very strong push for the starting LT spot this year.

Adding to that, the fact that we ended up with Chase Thomas and (omg) Kevin Reddick as UDFA's. I am almost giddy.. really trying not to get too excited, since none of them have actually played a down of NFL football yet. Still, the potential is undeniably there.

no it was not an epic failure.

i accept round one to the point i will wait and see. But we past up the a great trade down sistuation in a very active draft that could have led to more flexibility in our later picks. but i will wait and see

the rest of the way i understand and accept the offense additions as solid risk reward move.

Defense thats another issue all together. IMO 3 players would have done the defense more good than the 2 players we add. maybe i see Jonathan Sullivan in the press box eating his way off the team all over again. The 6th? lets see what happens i do not get it. get him on the field. passed on some good talent to take him

saints are going to regret not addressing the OL depth by seasons end. way to many IR regulars and red shirt freshman coming off of injury for my liking. I am waiting for the elite UDFA left to sign. then i will pray the saints work the wavier wire before the season begins. If not i am praying for drews safety every sunday.

Offense got the job done
Defense was babied and screwed the pooch
