Draft Grades

USA Today / B+
New Orleans Saints: A pretty nice job for a team that lost its second rounder in the aftermath of Bountygate. S Kenny Vaccaro (Round 1) is the playmaker the defense has lacked; OL Terron Armstead (Round 3) is a gifted athlete, and the Saints have a penchant for finding O-line gems; John Jenkins (Round 3) is the nose tackle the new 3-4 defense was lacking; and WR Kenny Stills (Round 5) could replace Devery Henderson as QB Drew Brees' deep threat. GRADE: B+
2013 NFL Draft grades: An 'A' for effort goes to ...

AOL / B

New Orleans Saints: The Saints got their key components for Rob Ryan's new 3-4 defense, a terrific all-around safety with good blitzing pop (Texas' Kenny Vaccaro) and an ideal nose tackle (Georgia's John Jenkins). But this is the Saints, so we look to their offensive steals. They should feel good about turning athletic Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Terron Armstead into a rock of a left tackle given their small-school history with linemen (see Jahri Evans, Jermon Bushrod). Oklahoma wide receiver Kenny Stills has the skills to thrive with Drew Brees, too.

Fox Sports /
New Orleans Saints

Floyd Engel: (B-) Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro is the real deal. No really, he is. And the Saints need help on D, especially with the QBs in the NFC at the moment.
Marvez: (B+)
Vaccaro will immediately push starter Roman Harper for playing time. Arkansas Pine-Bluff left tackle Terron Armstead, who wowed scouts with his pre-draft workouts, could become the latest small-school offensive line find for a franchise that drafted Jahri Evans (Bloomsburg University) and Jermon Bushrod (Towson).
Schrager (B)
Vaccaro could be a star in this league at safety. I love the Armstead and John Jenkins picks, too. Big fellas. The Saints didn’t get a pass rusher and that scares me. The team gave up the most yards in NFL history a season ago.

CBS Sports / B+

Best pick: It was their first-round pick of safety Kenny Vaccaro, who will add range to a secondary that needs it.
Questionable move: They have to be concerned somewhat with third-round pick John Jenkins, who has a tendency to get heavy. If he can control it, I like the pick.
Third-day gem: They landed a playmaker in the fifth round in receiver Kenny Stills. He will be a big part of their offense in a year.
Analysis: They addressed two important needs with their first two picks in Vaccaro and left tackle Terron Armstead (third). If Jenkins can keep his weight down and start on the nose, they hit big.
Grade: B+

Roto World / C+

Overview: GM Mickey Loomis was working without a second-round pick due to Bountygate, but still landed two day-two values in Armstead and Jenkins and arguably a third on day three in speedster Stills. Vaccaro can team with Malcolm Jenkins to give Rob Ryan two safeties with range and one-on-one matchup skills, likely pushing overpriced box SS Roman Harper out the door. Jenkins is a mammoth athlete with a Haynesworthian ceiling. Johnson is a dominant small schooler with plus measurables, and Loomis has hit on that kind of player before (Akiem Hicks, Jermon Bushrod, Jahri Evans, Marques Colston). The Saints only added five players, but they were all quality picks. The Saints are going to be much better than they were last year.

SI / C

The Saints ought to be thrilled with S Kenny Vaccaro, their first-round selection. They were not on the clock for 60 selections after that and only made five total picks. The best of the rest might be DT John Jenkins, who’s faster than he looks. OT Terron Armstead was a value at 75, but he will not help the Saints’ issues at tackle until at least 2014. Grade: C

I'm leaning toward a B+. But I am not really all that familiar with our draftees. They look good on paper. But then again I look good in the dark so it's a wash. Ha!

Haynesworth had a couple of years when he was the best 4-3 DT in the game. Then he had to play NT in the Redskins 3-4 and stunk it up something fierce.

Re: 2013 Draft grades (Collection)

A B+ sounds about right, only because we had no 2nd rounder.

I loved the Vaccaro pick, but what made the draft was getting both Armstead and Jenkins in the 3rd, what great value.

Getting Kenny Stills in the 5th, was just icing on the cake.

Dont know anything about Rufus Johnson, but like what I've been reading.

Re: 2013 Draft grades (Collection)

The draft was a second rounder from potentially being amazing. It still could be but add Jamie Collins,Amerson, Jamar Taylor etc and it would have been even better.

We won't know till the season starts but I'm hopeful especially with the UFA
