More on Chase Thomas

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The more I see the happier I am we got this kid. I just don't understand why he didn't get drafted in the first place. What deep dark secret/mistake is in his past or personality? Onswipe...

Re: More on Chase Thomas

Didn't he have a bad combine performance? That's the reason for going undrafted?

Could be a steal if he makes the team, I expect him to be battling for a starting OLB spot though...

Re: More on Chase Thomas

he is a Clydesdale of LB in peoples book with limited upside or put another way a slow white kid that will not develop much more than what he is in college. lol

He ran a 4.87 at the combine and a 4.80 on pro day (Jordan 4.54 - Mingo 4.53 - Jones 4.88)

What you get is a smart player that goes at 110% all the time. that is rare and usually worth at least one or two tenths of a second in the forty. ok a tenth. Few chance of him getting caught starting of in the wrong direction but if he did:

ok now break down the glorious over hyped 40.

1.67 in the 10 yd split is solid ( Jordan 1.61 - Mingo 1.57- Jones 1.66)
2.77 in the 20 is good also ( Jordan 2.59 - Mingo 2.63- Jones 2.79)

they kid just does not have that elite gear in the final 20 but neither did Jones but he solid initial get up and go. Pass coverage is the area of concern against backs out the back field so strong side OLB is best suited were he has safety help over the top and the short side of the field.

But he is quick on his feet which is key for a LB and readjusting better than most of the OLB

Short Shuttle 4.31 ( Jordan 4.35 - Mingo 4.39- Jones 4.71)
3 cone drill 7.17 ( Jordan 7.02 - Mingo 6.84- Jones 7.46)

Explosion is fabulous
Vertical 32 ( Jordan 32.5- Mingo 37 - Jones 30.5)

all measurable which are are cute and nice but were it matters in my book on tape! that's were he shines.

Whats his issue. no upside or his floor is his ceiling. like i always say i hate upside but for him to undrafted is everyone else loss and our gain. I just think after the 5th round teams just over looked the kid and assumed they missed something with him.

He could easily be the steal of the draft. Now lets get him on the field and see him play at nfl speed. I am going out on limb here but i can see him calling the assignments and maybe just maybe making the switch to ILB. Yep the kid has the smarts to lead a defense.

Watch all the Stanford football you can they may have more defensive players draft in the first two days than you would think next year. I really like their system. one day they will have the offense and the defense at the same time and make a run for the championship. they are the best well rounded team in that high flying artsie fartsie offensive division they play in.

The first thing I ask when scouting football players is...

What kind of "motor" does he have?

And with Chase Thomas, you have an All-Pro Motor...

That's why I wanted to draft him...

Re: More on Chase Thomas

he is the type of player that seems to be in the right place at the right time more than once or twice in the season that can determine a game. he just has that kind knack. it a tebow type of thing. i just had to go there

YES! He had a so called bad combine, but his time of 4.91 "40" was the exact same as Jarvis Jones's proday 4.91! The difference that makes no sense is that Chase improved his time at his proday to 4.7ish and 4.8ish i don't know exactly what he ran at his proday but he said he improved between 4.7-4.8 on both his attempts! Jarvis Jones never even tried or had a chance to run faster so his time of 4.91 was his time of scout record!
The popularity of Jones along with his production had him only slide a few spots from top 10 to top 18! The only reason I can figure out why Chase's fall was so much farther and so mind boggling! Is one was judged differently and more critical on one 40 time over another's 40 time! I get why Jarvis was picked at a justified spot, but what I don't get is why Chase, with the worst scout evaluation of 5th rd but logically 2nd or 3rd rd gtade, Why did he fall so far over the same situation Jarvis fell but so big of a difference of a result! It was pure PUBLIC APPROVED DISCRIMINATION "unjust media garbage that boost public's image, monetary, popularity, power, and or advantage" It was all Selfish and plain ignorant analyst that RUN GM's responsibilities and actions because of fear of PUBLIC OPINION! It was all about Analyst boosting their self esteem by giving popular negativity or positivity, but either way when it isn't TRUE or isn't REALITY it sways people to either good or bad selfish opinions! So analyst have absolutely taking the scouts job because they "any media outlet" have the control of the people's opinion whether it's good or bad we follow popular opinion and most of the time we don't even care or want to know if it is true as long as we feel right or MAINLY OTHERS THINK WE ARE RIGHT!

Probably because Jones was playing in best conference college football has ever seen while Thomas was at Yale playing against the Ivy Leaguers. I hope he's a star, but I just don't see it right now.
