Junya First in Line?

Here's an interesting article that has Junya taking the starting OLB position from Will.

Re: Junya First in Line?

THE only thing I would worry about on this D would be the ILB position, I think if there is a weak link it would be our middle, bring Smith in the middle I believe would shut down the middle and make other teams have to run the edges, and I would say good luck with it.

Also that would free up Harper to do his thing on occasion.

Re: Junya First in Line?

The thing I've always noticed about the 34, is that if you're strong up the middle, you will generally have a very stout defense. The reason I say this is because it's very hard to run outside against a 34 as opposed to a 43, so most teams that are sucessful against the 34 do it by being extremely physical and ramming the ball up the middle. When the defense starts to tire, then the game is open for the taking. If we have enough good players to stay fresh all game and all season long and we play halfway decent, this will still be a tough defense to beat.

I've thought that too and we've sure brought in some monsters to help out Bunkley this offseason.

I hope teams do try to run us to death. Our offense is back now that Paytons back and if teams want to run against a offense that puts up thirty with ease then let them run like Gump. Our defense will be middle of the pack at the worst.

Really, at least 2 or 3 times every year huh?

I cant remember seeing Harper get burned by a TE, I saw him get beat for a TD by the greatest TE in the last decade and future hall of famer

But man, harper is nowhere near as bad as people make him out to be, some people here would say Greer is our best CB, go back and watch how many times he got schooled

Throw last year out the window, I like roman harper

I'm stoked. It's been great to see him develop - I'm definitely one of the galette fans. I hope he rocks this season - god how much longer do we have to wait, these off seasons are killing me.

Lots of people were burned in that game. Do you need a memory refresh for them too.

That was my first thought too. Who DIDN'T get burned in that game?

Our running backs, there weren't any...

Well Harper was burned for no less than two touchdowns...in that game...

Will Smith is not meant to be a part of this team; he doesn't fit. Trade him and a sixth round pick to Rams for OT Rodger Saffold and don't f*** around with Drew's Health...

With the BEEF we've brought in?!? I'd be Pi$$ed if teams still ran on us regularly...

Like your opinion JP. Anyone who cares can defend Harper all they want. Proof is in the pudding he needs to get Beat out and sent packing. Smith is really not a bad player but he will surprise me if he makes it either. Smith is not going to fit well in this system because he cant run.

It was actually 4 TDs in that one game. However don't bother arguing about Harper it goes no where with far too many people on this forum.

Proof of Harper's poor ability to play the position isn't just in the scouting reports. Look at what has been done; 1st RD pick Safety and being forced to take a pay cut. Ill trust Mickey and the staff know best here.

4 TD's huh?

Hmmm, OK.

Here's what we know...

Mickey and the staff drafted him.
Payton made him a starter from day one.
He's been the starter for 7 years.
He's made two pro bowls.
He received more gameballs than anyone else on the team one year.
GW said Harper made exactly 2 mistakes in the Seattle game.
GW said he played a great game other than those 2 plays.
Mickey and the staff gave him a top 5 salary for safeties.
Payton gave MALCOLM JENKINS a heads up when we drafted Vacarro.
The Saints just gave Harper more money and an extension.
Payton said the team will start Vacarro off at the Free Safety position.

Yeah great game giving up 4TDs... I couldn't care less of what GW has to say about anything.

Harper took a PAY CUT. He didn't go to the front office and say hey guys i'd like less money... no, Mickey probably told him to take less money or find another team.

PFT has had Harper ranked as one of the worst safeties to sit on the bench for the last two years, but hey this is all regurgitation at this point.

But to stay on topic...

I am looking forward to this new D and i think JR and Butler will play big roles. Both JR and butler could be pro-bowlers IMO.

Drew brees threw 5 picks vs falcons, 4 picks vs browns, 3 picks vs 49ers BOTH TIMES! 2 went back for TD's

Players have bad games, people just like blaming harper

Harper had a bad game vs seattle, drew had a bad game in the 2011 playoff game and then immediately demanded a 100 million dollar contract, why not give him some blame?

Re: Junya First in Line?

The linebacking corps has a chance to be just as deep, at least on the outside. In addition to Smith, Galette, Butler and Wilson, the Saints added sixth-rounder Rufus Johnson and hard-working undrafted free agent Chase Thomas to the mix. Finding two reliable starters out of that group of six will be atop the Saints’ to-do list this offseason, but the odds are in their favor.

Hmmm I still think Wilson's natural skills set is in the middle of the field. You look at his speed and everyone sees OLB right away.

Watch tape on him and you see a LB that has an excellent knack at shooting gaps. That is just his natural gift. Timing and reading the blocking schemes.

I wouldn't be shocked if our two ILB's end up being Wilson and Lofton. With the 2014 Capageddon approaching, we damn well better find some cheaper solutions at several positions.

Mickey can work magic, but he can't work miracles.
