Last year - 0-4 in the last four while chasing a playoff spot; gave up 160 points.

This year, loss to 3-10 team. Loss to 1-13 team. Losing to Carolina is not only possible, it's probable. You cannot do that in Decemeber.

Obviously Venturi needs to be fired and never spoken to again. In my opinion, Haslett should go with him IF this team doesn't make the playoffs this year. Go hire Raw Lewis, bring Mora back, who cares just give me a guy who has a chance of winning in Decemeber.

I am physically sick right now. Brooks - three fumbles, ten or so passes that SHOULD have been intercepted, he fell down on one play, ran on another when he had no business running. 0-4 in the last series.

Our defense allow 240 yards of rushing. We gained 36 yards on the ground against the 30th ranked run defense. Three trips to the red zone netted us -12 yards of total offense, two field goals and a missed field goal. A no name back up runningback on the worst team in football absolutely ran over our best defensive end (Howard) on a goal line situation and pushed him three yards into the end zone before flat backing him when the game and playoffs were on the line.

Keep the O-line, keep Horn, Stallworth, Pathon, Deuce, Michael Lewis, Fred McAfee, Sammy Knight, Dale Carter, and Fred Thomas. Every one else on this team should go, including the coaches.

If I remember correctly, New York holds the tie breaker over us. That means we are out unless they lose to Philly and we beat the Panthers. This team does not deserve a playoff spot. New York deserves it with what they have done this year. We don't. I hope for our sake we don't make the playoffs, b/c we'll be embarrassed by whoever we play in the firt round. But then again, it doesn't get much more embarrasssing than today.

I would never pull for the Saints to lose. But let\'s face it, this team is no where ready to face the top teams in the league. The best that this current Saints team will do is \"one and done\" IF they make it to the dance.

Consider:

- Over last two years the Saints have tanked over the last four games of the year (Just as \"WhoDat stated\".
- Once again we must wonder if Haslett has LOST his team in an importannt stretch run.
- Where is the emotion, on field leadership?
- Btw, Carolina ran up 50 on this same Cincy team not long ago. Next week will be VERY difficult.

Waiting for the usually post game SPIN. :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet:

Sure the defense gave up alot of yards in this game but the this loss definitley hangs on the offense. We are given the ball at least 4 times in great field position and can\'t do anything with it. This failure to score after being handed great field position all these times will deject any defense. We held them to only 7 points for mosty of this game so it was there for the offense, and Brooks to do something with it. I didn\'t think Brooks could play any worse but he proved he has worse games in his bag. I truly think that a change at QB for the second half would have resulted in a win. Haslett gets the blame for not realizing this.

I heard Haslett\'s interview on the radio in which his first statement was, \"This wasn\'t us.\" Oh, really? Then who was it, Jim? It wasn\'t you last week either. Or the week before that when you damn near lost to Baltimore. Too bad you and that team that wasn\'t \"us\" couldn\'t play Tampa Bay every week.
The problem is the Saints don\'t have a \"killer-instinct\". They have a \"who-brought-me-here\" instinct.

Yep, that genuinely sucked. I have been a Brooks fan from day one. But next week the Saints need to start Jake. They need to light a fire under Brooks. Yeah, I couldn\'t do any better than him, but look at his paycheck compared to mine.

And another thing.... It seems that when it matters most, everyone (including teams that seemingly have nothing to play for) plays harder than the Saints do. Name me any team who\'s season is over (Cincy, Carolina, Detroit... even Phoenix) and I assure you that they are playing harder than the Saints are right now.

How is it possible that two years in a row, a team that is in the heat of playoff contention acts like they don\'t want to get there. Keep in mind that there was the big off season \"house cleaning\" to get rid the so-called problem players. Now what is the excuse???

It\'s obvious that last year\'s collapse was no fluke. Patiently awaiting answers

Maybe it\'s time to look at the Head Coach. I blame him for this loss and for not keeping the team focused. That\'s were the problem lies people. The Saints have more talent than they have ever had in the history of this fanchise. Yet the coaches are 2nd rate at best. And just don\'t know how to win consistantly. And I thought 2 years ago that maybe we had found a coach. But i\'m not so sure now.

That\'s an excellent point Datman. Whose fault is it now? Last year they blamed injuries and a locker room that was divided with talk of Willie Roaf\'s wife and kid and all that other crap.

What\'s the problem now? Our defense isn\'t missing a sing;e \"starter.\" Our offense is playing with Deuce at 85% (according to him, but then again he\'s played great more hurt than he is now), and Brooks with a shoulder injury. Otherwise, they\'er all there too.

Obviously Venturi\'s defense has sucked all season. McCarthy\'s offense has sputtered a lot in the last month or so, and been absolutely terrible in the red zone the second half of the season. It is on Haslett to keep his team focused, and to find the right coaches and oversee their gameplans and schemes.

I never thought I would say this, but Haslett might not be the right guy. Look at the front office changes after last season. They lost or got rid of Randy Mueller and Ron Zook. Mueller was the second best GM in Saints history behind on the late great Jim Finks. Zook was the best \"position\" coach they had on the team.

I\'ve said all year, this defense is not lacking enough talent to be this bad. Have you seen the offense in the last month?! When they get in the red zone it\'s like some one threw a switch and turned off their ability to gain yards. In the opening drive they probably didn\'t have a single play that gained less than five yards, except for the to Deuce dive plays to pick up 1 yard for a first. Then they get in the red zone and on three plays they manage to lose 7 yards. Unbelievable. Coaching, coaching, coaching.

One other thing, youhave to wonder about Benson. After all, it was Benson\'s decision to get rid of Mueller. A decision I still don\'t understand. Ultimately, it\'s Benson\'s responsibility to get the right GM, and top level coaches.

The whole sideline looked lost throughout the game. There is absolutely no leadership nor confidence from the leadership positions......QB and MLB and coaches.
All the teams know that Aaron Brooks is staying in the back of the pocket and his feet are happier than Jim Everett\'s ever were. Again, he is constantly backpeddling and throwing off his back foot. Today he couldn\'t even hold on to the ball. He has definitely lost his confidence and focus. When he is playing at 75% his potential he is better than Jake, but he is not playing at 10% and the defense cannot constantly make the same plays as the Dome Patrol of the early 90s. The offense has the weapons, but no longer has the trigger (QB) to fire them. Jake would have made a difference in the game today.
I believe the Eagles will beat the Giants next Saturday and set up a showdown in the Dome for the final playoff spot in the NFC. If Brooks starts and plays the entire game, we will lose miserably. If Jake starts, we will win and the defense will play miraculously better. The coaches have just not realized that Jake is the better QB at this time and more importantly the better leader. He can inspire confidence in the rest of the team and they will rise to another level of play. That is really all it will take to bring this team back to life. Stay with Brooks and well.............it will be a long winter for the fans, the team, the coaching staff, the front office and the owner.

Regardless of who is a t QB, our run is over. As the 5 cede we were going to San Francisco, where, if we played up, had a real shot at beating them and advancing in the playoffs. Now, we\'re a 6 cede at best, unless of course both the Giants and Falcons lose and we win. As a 6 cede we\'ll be traveling to Green Bay, and I think we all know that this team will not beat the Packers in Lambeau in January. Period. Season over.

Now the Mueller firing seems to be even more significant. The coaching question marks not withstanding, we probably won\'t be able to take advantage of the picks we have in next year\'s draft. Benson doesn\'t have a clue. As someone who has done well as a businessman, he picked the wrong time to let his ego change the future course of the Saints.

Btw, Tom Jackson (NFL Primetime) was rightfully critical of Dale Carter, who was shown shortly after the end of the game \"laughing it up\" with on of the Bengals players. Tom said that type of outward display of emotion was not good for someone on a team that just lost a game of that magnitude. I guess Aaron isn\'t the only Saint who likes to \"smile\" at unusual times.

If the Saints don\'t make the playoffs this year, do you think Haslett\'s job is in question?

I doubt it, but I think it should be. Everyone scoffed when Tampa Bay fired Dungy after all his good years there, but it seems to have worked out well. Should the Saints go out and get a guy like Marvin Lewis?

At least he has a chip on his shoulder. He has something to prove b/c he\'s been overlooked for a head coaching job for a few years. AND, he\'s a defensive specialist. I think he would be a great choice for us... but will it happen? Will Benson even consider replacing Haslett? Would you?

his job isnt in jeopardy, he just resigned, so he isnt going anywhere. but i will say this, , we sucked it up today badly. i have been as big a AB supporter as anyone, and he stunk it up, as did many of the Saints today, we suck, we dont deserve to be in the playoffs and if we do make it, it wont be for long. another thing, after the Sheety first half, i actually wanted Haz to put Jake in the game b/c Brooks just sucked it up

I was depressed last week, homicidal during today\'s game, but now calm and somehow relaxed, accepting that this team - and more importantly its coaches - are not of playoff calibre.

It can\'t be for want of physical talent, so it must be lack of its application and organization - the coaches job. There is obviously something radically wrong with the team \"chemistry\", but that is not in itself the root cause of our problems. It\'s got to reside with Benson / Haslett / Who-Is-the-GM-Anyway. Some examples:

- No compensation for Brooks\' weak leadership = Phaps Haslett couldn\'t replace Brooks\' today because Aaron\'s authority as a leader is so fragile (and now non-existent). If the O-Line plays badly - and how much worse could it get after 36 yards against the 30th ranked defence - AB has no leverage to turn them araound. I believe the opposition know that he can\'t carry the team if they stop the run.

- Living in a dream world = Week after week of losses to inferior teams and saying \"We just need to put it behind us\". Come back Jim Mora, and tell \'em they SUCK. Detroit was maybe too early for a make-up call, but Cleveland wasn\'t.

- Brian Cox as the foundation for Saints leadership??? Cox is a loose cannon who has done little but embarrass his team with brutal on-field behavior once his physical abilities declined. Massive error of judgement here.

- Joe Horn as a leader??? Joe is a great salesman and a fine spokesman and that\'s important, but that\'s not the anchor a failing team needs to restore itself.

- An inability to coach the best RB in the league. = OK, this would be tough for the best of motivators,...but do we seriously think a 1st Round pick was worth it? Miami are laughing all the way to the play-offs.

There has been something radically wrong with the Saints as a team for two years now. These coaches seem to have no idea what it is. They could quite easily lose to Carolina next week, then again they might make a run in the play-offs. \"Frankly my dears, I don\'t give a damn.\" I\'m just used up. :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: See y\'all next year

:P I have watched these games for the last few weeks and come to a few conclusions. The first conclusion is that Mike McCarthy never has a \"B\" plan. If the opponent shuts down what he thought should have worked against them, it takes him too long to adjust (if he ever does) to what works. Secondly, Instead of playing a one-gap scheme, they have the DT tackles playing straight up which they are not aptly equipped to do. Thirdly, Venturi has outguessed himself to many times which has caused the defense to look more porous than it really is. Forth, Jim Haslett is trying like most head coaches to let his assistants do their respectful jobs, but I really think that he is getting fed up with that. My offseason predictions. Rick Venturii will be demoted or fired. The Saints will move Mike Riley to offensive assistant or offensive coordinator. The Saints will try their darndest to draft E. J. Henderson middle linebacker from Maryland.
