The line has been crossed and then some.

I normally don't post things from a different forum, and I don't know if it has been mentioned here or not, but I thought this should be brought to everyone's attention. 790 The Zone in Atlanta was making fun of Steve Gleason and his battle with ALS. Karma is a cruel ***** and they will have theirs. This is bulletin board material if I've ever seen any. These classless bums just introduced their beloved Falcons into the House of Pain this year. Enjoy that job while you have it, guys. Collect your food stamps and Obamacare at the next window.

"Just had a whole segment making fun of Steve Gleason and him talking through a computer. The arse clowns from Mayhem in the AM did this 3 minute joke where they pretended that Steve Gleason called in and they asked him questions. Most of his responses were in the form of a knock knock joke and at one point he says he doesn't know if he will be alive next Thursday.

Beyond offensive and in such poor taste. I normally don't get worked up by talk radio but i called them a gave them a big frick you.

I suggest others do the same."

WOW .... 790 The Zone in Atlanta making fun of Gleason @ TigerDroppings.com

Re: The line has been crossed and then some.

Atlanta radio station apologizes for making fun of Steve Gleason | ProFootballTalk
ALS has robbed Gleason of the ability to do most of the simple everyday things that most of us take for granted, like speaking and using his hands. As a result, the only way Gleason is able to communicate is to use computer software that allows him to type with his eyes, and provides him with a voice to speak. The guys at 790 The Zone apparently thought it would be funny to engage in a mock interview in which they poked fun at Gleason and used a robotic voice to portray things Gleason might say.

Understandably, many listeners were angered. When contacted by PFT, 790 The Zone confirmed that it has received strong negative feedback after airing the bit. And Nick Cellini of the “Mayhem in the A.M.” show that ran the Gleason-bashing segment acknowledged on Twitter that he had made a serious error in judgment.

“My apologies to everyone. It was a stupid attempt at humor that backfired. Emphasis on stupid,” Cellini wrote.

It’s hard to imagine how anyone ever thought making fun of Steve Gleason was a good idea. There’s no word yet on whether the folks who were involved in this will remain on the air at 790 The Zone.

I just called ... The producer will "call me back" ... I said "These guys are lowest form of life --- absolute oxygen thiefs and they should and will be fired for this ... It'll go viral and you'll hear about it on Sportcenter tonight."

She completely agreed with me and was very apologetic. I can't believe ANYONE would do this ... absolutely shameful.

Karma will get who? The Radio Station right? Our team had nothing to do with this garbage...the whole city called in and ripped these guys a new one. I'm all for trash talk but this was just classless on their behalf.

sick...disgusting...and most of all SAD...those guys are toolbags...whats next? maybe they could trip some poor child that has cerebral paulsey? one thing it is not, it is not surprising...2nd rate city with 3rd rate radio show about a lame, never-gonna-win team that has a joke of a QB and a mastermind coach who has no idea what 4th down is...

I bet Team Gleason will handle this with immense class and make those idiots feel like the scum they are.

They've been suspended indefinitely pending an investigation, which essentially means they have been fired.

Re: The line has been crossed and then some.

Putting aside how disgusting it is........

how in the world did they ever think this was a good idea?

I'm guessing they probably have been doing similar types of "humor" for a while, to the point where they got more and more de-sensitized to what crosses a line.....and this was the result.

Either way, I don't blame the station one bit for suspending/firing them.

And I thought it couldn't get any less classier than Bears fans. I don't know why I would surprised... it's Atlanta.

Seriously....the Failcants might as well not show up for the opener. Its gonna be a serious beatdown. And they have to come to do Dome! I hope Gleason is in attendance the Dome will be turned up FORREAL!

Re: The line has been crossed and then some.

Folks don't lose sight on who said this. I dislike the team, players and staff like anyone else but they aren't the ones who done this.

The people responsible are being held accountable. But I'm not going to pin this soley on the organization. If you can't separate the two shame on you

The reason the Who Dat nation has a ring is because of character.

The reason the filthy chickens do not, is because they're low life scumbag piles of guano.

I'm not even referring to their football team.

Deliverance isn't their theme song for nothing, ya know.

Phuckin' Georgia sleep with their sister inbreds.

They're nothing but a steamy pile of yuppie turds.
They give rednecks a bad name.

It is classless. But really, shock value and pushing the envelope is how these guys operate. Not surprised at all.
It stands out for us because Gleason is a huge positive symbol. I'm just not surprised.

Steak Shapiro, Nick Cellini and Chris DiMino are a special kind of stupid.

Making fun of a handicapped person suffering from a life ending disease is below classless.

Welcome to the unemployment line and good luck finding a job like that again. I suggest moving to Timbuktu and hopefully they can get a job hosting the weather.

You would think that by now people would know better than to make fun of someone with a terminal disease. You can say a lot of controversial rude demeaning things on radio about people, upset and offend them too and sometimes get away with it. But this one should've been a no brainer. People in the media aren't supposed to be this dumb.

Re: The line has been crossed and then some.

I wont pin this on the team or the city. I've encountered people on the internet, who Im sure find this funny. Maybe some fans, unfortunately.

I would say I dont understand what makes shock jocks tick, but I think we all do. They need attention. They're always losers-- guys who couldnt get a girl in school, who couldnt make the team, and who no one remembers, who never
accomplished anything. They're desperate for attention, and they need validation so badly from anyone who will laugh with them, and it doesnt matter where they have to stoop to scrape up a fan. The upside is these guys right now are crying in their bed with a box of chocolate, wondering how they're going to survive working a real job. Radio people need to be on the radio to feel important. Classic inferiority/superiority complex.
