Jabari Greer: Gregg Williams 'best defensive coach'

1 Attachment(s)
Gregg Williams didn't do the Saints any favors with his role in the bounty scandal, but at least one of his former New Orleans players still thinks the world of him.

"I think he was the best defensive coach that I've played for professionally," cornerback Jabari Greer told WPRT-FM in Nashville on Tuesday, per TitanInsider.com.

Coming off his NFL-imposed suspension, Williams was reinstated in February and hired by the Tennessee Titans as a senior defensive assistant. Greer argued the Titans' players "are lucky to have him."

"Gregg did a great job of creating a professional approach to football," Greer said. "He made us accountable to each other. He really created something that we still live off of today in our defensive room. We play with a passion and we play with an intensity that is going to be unmatched."

Greer's not alone in his admiration for Williams; we've seen countless Saints players line up to defend both him and coach Sean Payton. Titans players aren't far behind. Tennessee cornerback Alterraun Verner gushed over Williams in June, saying: "He's hitting the ground running. He's trying to get us back to where we need to be."

And from safety Michael Griffin: "I'm just very excited to see what he can do with this team."

Williams remains stationed below embattled defensive coordinator Jerry Gray in the Titans' pecking order, but that's easy to forget. One season removed from banishment, Williams' return to the sideline remains one of the more intriguing coaching subplots of 2013.

He was an excellent coach. Having Malcom line up man to man on Vernon Davis late in the game was dumb, but hey, what can you do?

IMO he was completely mad. thats why this defense will pick up 34 without a big issue.

In his first year he was great, refusing to adapt when it was obvious every offense had figured him out is what was disturbing

You live by the sword, you die by the sword... G.W. was a firm believer in unorthodoxed blitzing. Williams & Ryan both are Buddy Ryan disciples, so we should see "basically" the same concepts...

Buddy Ryan had great D's. He had an eye for talent. Our D was never shutdown under GW. If he is the best D-coord JG ever played for then our talent sucks, bad

I am not even sure he was great. There were just a lot of turnovers. Without the turnovers his D sucked every year he was here.

That said, his greatest coaching job was the SB, and I will never take anything away from him for that. The second half he completely shut that offense down, and I give him all the credit in the world for that. He had an awesome game plan

Lol. Jenkins can't keep up with Davis and those 4.3 burners. That theory is all wrong.
