New Orleans Saints' Curtis Lofton out, Jonathan Vilma limited during Tuesday's practice
 

The New Orleans Saints avoided any serious injuries during Tuesday's practice, but coach Sean Payton cleared up a few of the team's lingering ailments in his post-practice interview.

Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton was held out of practice Tuesday for what Payton described as a sore back.

Payton said team trainers took a conservative route with Lofton by holding him out of practice, but the injury should be minor and Lofton will return soon.

Payton also confirmed Larry Holder's report that linebacker Martez Wilson will be out two to four weeks with a left elbow injury sustained in Monday's practice.

Linebacker Jonathan Vilma was limited during team drills Tuesday. Vilma declined comment when asked why he was held out of select drills. He was still sporting stitches on the bridge of his nose after Monday's head-on collision with running back Mark Ingram.



"(Vilma) looks like Avatar with that strip on his nose, so I guess I put a good hit on him," Ingram said. "It was just a good collision. I don't know, maybe he needs to get his helmet fitted a little better."

Tuesday marked the fifth day wide receiver Jarred Fayson was held out of practice after suffering from dehydration during the team's conditioning test prior to camp.
Payton said he believes wide receiver Marques Colston, who's nursing a foot injury, "will be fine." Colston is listed on the physically-unable-to-perform list along with linebacker Victor Butler (knee) and cornerback Patrick Robinson (knee).

Linebacker Ray Shipman also sat out practice Tuesday, and defensive lineman Tom Johnson is expected to miss the next week of training camp after suffering a minor hip injury in Monday's practice. Johnson headed to the locker room early Monday, but returned to the field after a few minutes.

Ingram has collided with Butler and Vilma now. Butler is done for the season and Johnny V has stitches. Damn Ingram! Take it easy! Same team Brah!!!!

Hope he is taking it easy. Hey front office, make sure Ingram doesn't get any extra money when he gets a defensive player carted off during a real game. Remember, that stuff's frowned on around the NFL...
