My Observations from the game vs chiefs

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Something interesting that really doesn't mean much... Take it for what you want to, but right now the Saints have the #1 Defense in total yards. I know it means nothing; it's pre-season. What this tells me is the scheme ...

Take it for what you want to, but right now the Saints have the #1 Defense in total yards. I know it means nothing; it's pre-season. What this tells me is the scheme works and we have good depth behind our first string. The first drive was no-huddle and dink and duck offense down the field. I am actually less concerned about our D after the KC game.

The special team performance is extremely concerning. We gave up more yards on special teams than to the KC offense.

My notes for the game:
1. Will Smith needs to ride the bench.
2. Toon will be #3, and will have a good season.
3. It may be time for a new ST coordinator.
4. Atkins might make a jump at OLB.
5. No new injuries, lets be happy about that!

the good - football is back fella's
the bad - special teams ( for guys trying to make a team, that was awful
the ugly - was will smith struggling, hard to watch. he'll make team sorry.
pay cut he took guaranteed him a spot on at least the bench.

don't pay much attention to alex the 'greats' drive. the bootleg
dump offs is what vanilla preseason is about.

I don't see anyone mentioning it, but Chase Thomas stood out to me as the game went on. It seemed like he was constantly in the backfield pressuring the Chiefs. I saw his jersey on just about every play.

Re: My Observations from the game vs chiefs

Didn't read every post, but it seems most everyone is down on Will Smith. I can't disagree with most of the assessments, but I want to give credit where it is due.

There was a play where Alex Smith was forced out of the pocket and ran towards the right sideline. He was being chased by a d-lineman and had Will Smith between him and what would have been a good gain. Will's hustle kept Alex from getting to the outside causing him to throw the ball away. It looked to me like Will couldn't possibly run faster and gave 100% on that play...in the preseason...game 1 no less.

He may not have it for OLB, but that's great leadership.

Yep, and later in the 1st half KC ran that same little dump off in the flats and the WLB (Hawthorne??) had coverage and tackled for minimum gain. Thats how that play is normally defended. Will Smith won't be that guy 99% of the time.

I have been traveling and haven't made it home to watch the recording yet.
From what I've read our two biggest concerns are ST and Will Smith. Take the hit and cut him.......we have a great opportunity to upgrade the team with a youth movement now and simply move on.
