Preston Parker a Lock to Make Saints Roster After Performance vs. Chiefs

The New Orleans Saints have an issue at wide receiver with Joe Morgan out for the year and Marques Colston sitting on the PUP list with an injury.

In Week 1 of preseason action, the Saints had no issues at all moving the ball up and down the field via the passing attack thanks to a receiver by the name of Preston Parker.

Who?

Parker is a third-year receiver who has bounced around the league to this point. He exploded on to the scene in his Saints debut against the Kansas City Chiefs for four catches, 44 yards and two touchdowns. Larry Holder of NOLA.com says head coach Sean Payton called the performance “exceptional”, which is nothing but a good sign:

So when Saints coach Sean Payton said Parker had an “exceptional” game during the team’s 17-13 preseason win over Kansas City last Friday, Parker knew he made quite the impression with his four catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns.

It’s the type of game that can give a receiver a leg up on the competition in a crowded field on candidates vying for the fifth wideout spot on the final roster.

Not only is Parker making a name for himself, he has versatility to boot. He has acted as a punt and kick returner in the past as well, making him all the more versatile and a piece the coaching staff should want to keep around when the roster is cut down to 53.

He did look good during the game ... I did not catch how well he blocked however ...

Preston Parker had a good game. Is he a lock to make the 53? I don't think we can say that off of one preseason game.

'A Lock' after one good performance? So if he has a game this week that was more like what Kenny Stills had in Game #1 will his 'Lock' Status still be hanging around?

I can't help but love opinion at the moment but there are no 'Locks' when competing for spot #5 on the roster, as things stand.

Great performance though. Keep up the good work and welcome to the team son!

I wouldn't say he's a "lock". I also wouldn't say he's "bounced around the league" seeing as how the Saints are only his second team in a 4-year career.

He is a pretty good player. He was a good player in Tampa too and a lot of people didn't get why they cut him last year.

This just proves the point that Brees can simply make just about any receiver look better. This guy bounced around the league and did so for a reason. Put him with the accuracy and timing Brees and he looks like a star. This is what so many people fail to accept when arguing that so and so is better than Brees.
The media is constantly throwing Ryans name into the mix when it comes to top 5 Qbs or when arguing who is the best QB in the south.
Ill give Ryan his due, he is turning out to be a very good QB. He performs at a high lever but has been doing it with the benefit of elite receivers in White and Jones and a Hall of Fame tight end. Even sub par Qb's would look a lot better than they actually are with that added benefit.
Brees has been performing at a much higher level for much longer throwing to late round draft picks, UDFA, over the hill FA, and small school named receivers. Brees makes any receiver look much better than they really are.
Ryans receivers make HIM look much better than he really is.
Throw Ryan in our offense and his numbers go down significantly.
Give Brees White and Jones and its not even fair.
This is not a knock on our receivers, they are very good, but I think we can all admit that while very good they are not elite.

Well, to be fair, McCown was throwing to him too.

Well Parker didn't actually bounce around the league. He'd only been with one team, Tampa. He's had some legal problems though. Guns and drugs at FSU.

Id hardly say he bounced around the league. He played two years at Tampa and was cut by the Bucs Sep 2012 and signed by the Saints to a future contract on Jan 7th.

He will make the roster
Just remember i told you in March that he would be a effective player

And he probably would have been drafted if it weren't for his troubled past.
