The New Orleans Saints Might Have A Second Shot at Nnamdi Asomugha

Things change so fast in the NFL. One second a player is considered the best at his position, the next he's old news. The New Orleans Saints didn't think that about Nnamdi Asomugha, and they're fortunate somebody else does.

Rob Ryan continues to navigate NFL injury minefield

Saints head coach Sean Payton walked back into his job after a year-long suspension with a singular goal in mind: rebuild the worst defense in the NFL. The man he selected for the job was interesting, if anything else. Rob Ryan has a long track record that spans six different teams dating back to 1994. He has two Super Bowl rings and is a second generation coach to his highly respected father, Buddy Ryan. He seemed like just the renegade brash enough to inherit such a monumental job. Nobody remotely close to the Saints organization believes he will solve the job overnight. In addition to a roster that wasn't very talented when he took over, he's already lost two key players he brought in himself to help in Victor Butler and Kenyon Coleman. It's not the ideal start he was hoping for, especially given the limited number of playoff opportunities the team has left with Drew Brees. Is there anything left to do to give the defense some added help?

Asomugha fighting Eric Wright for San Francisco 49ers roster spot

Ironically enough their biggest failure of free agency may actually still have a chance to become a success. New Orleans made a hard push back in March to sign veteran corner Nnamdi Asomugha in order to improve the worst secondary in football. Instead they "settled" for Keenan Lewis who is turning heads in training. To think they might have a second shot at the former Pro Bowler is icing on the cake. Indeed the San Francisco 49ers have hinted there is a serious possibility Asomugha is in danger of not making the roster. He was already lower on the depth chart when he signed. So when the team brought in Eric Wright via free agency, that tenuous hold grew a little weaker. The one thing that might save him is the injury to Chris Culliver, but if Asomugha signed in San Francisco to start then perhaps it's better that he does get cut. The Saints had serious interest a few months ago. It's hard to believe that interest has wavered in such a short time.

Rob Ryan is confident the New Orleans Saints can turn things around on defense. It will take time and some headaches. Perhaps taking a second shot at Nnamdi Asomugha might kill some of the pain.

If the whiners don't want him why the hell would we? Later Assumuga. I think we will be fine with Greer and Lewis.

Vet minimum with a option might be worth a look.

If Eric Wright beats him out of a roster spot, we don't want Nnamdi!
