49er's shopping Parys Haralson

49er's shopping Parys Haralson

The 49ers are talented on defense, and deep.

They’re now hoping to turn some of that depth into something else.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, the 49ers are shopping outside linebacker Parys Haralson in trade talks.

Haralson already took a pay cut this offseason, but they apparently want to cut that number even further.

Starters Aldon Smith and Ahmad Brooks give them an excellent tandem, and between veteran Dan Skuta and rookie Corey Lemonier, they have solid backup options.

The 29-year-old Haralson has 21.5 career sacks, and missed last year after tearing a triceps muscle.

It would also be nice to get some inside info on the Niners.

Probably get him cheap seeing he was hurt last year and their depth. Rd. 6 would probably steal him.

Be worth the risk at that price.I reckon the price would be higher for the Saints than for other interested teams though

Be worth the risk now that we lost Smith, we're losing depth and fast...

I would not trust Hairball at all. Funny Smith is out and he shops a player so soon. I say no, somethings up!! We can at least take a few days before we go calling!! Maybe we have Smiths replacement in house already.

We'd have to fork up a good player. They aren't gonna swap him for Parker or Tanner. We'd have to give up someone like Lance Moore.

Not gonna happen.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

With the amount of players they have and the draft picks they still hold,it might be possible to get him on a conditional pick.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

I don't think we have a choice at this point. Send them a late-round pick and let's get it done.

Honestly .... I would do that, if we were not SB contenders I wouldn't.. Or draft picks....

I was coming to ask the important question.. What would you give up to get him?

Maybe a conditional mid-round draft pick.

Personally I'd rather scour the final cuts for a stop-gap vet while our young guys grow. Martin and RJohnson could be ready for rotation by mid-season. Atkins is decent depth, but not much more.

As far as player trades, we're loaded at WR so Moore is an option.
We finally have a decent looking back-up QB, but I'm not sure he'd draw much interest. Harper? Maybe.

Malcolm Jenkins, no questions ask and throw in a 6th to get him gone!!

For some reason the name Barrett Ruud comes to mind. What was it a seventh rounder?

papz 08-26-2013 03:47 PM

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

Haralson is a capable starter but a backup on the 49ers. Two rookies have moved in front of him and he's now running with the 3rd string defense there. He shouldn't cost more than a conditional late round pick(I wouldn't offer anything more than a 6th)... or we could just wait and hopefully land him via waivers.

As long as there aren't anymore injuries, I'm content with Galette, Lofton, Hawthorne, Wilson, Humber, Martin, and Johnson. We should just be patient and scour the waiver wire when the cuts start rolling in if we're going to look for some veteran depth. No need to panic or rush into anything. We're okay right now.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

SF isn't going to go for a late round pick alone for a few reasons.

1. SF has 8m in cap space.
2. Not going to make the defense he is liable to face in the playoffs better for free
3. He is a 5th rounder that SF has invested time and money into.
4. SF KNOWS our situation.

As Danno pointed out.... We are Deeeeeeep at WR. We are stocked at WR, honestly we have the next Colston, the Next Moore, Henderson...

I wouldn't give high picks.... I would lay out the following offers...

A. 5th and any of the following names; Cadet, Moore, Roby, Tanner

B. 4th and pick a name; Parker, Toone, Hakim

I get your point Papz, the flip side is we have WRs that we will lose anyway. May as well barter for value.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

Are you kidding me? Moore? Moore is by FAR our best wr behind Colston. That would be a Ditka move. No way.......

I would do Parker and a 5th.

Work the waiver wires after cuts. Wait until then.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

IF it's Lance Moore, we have to have a third round pick and Parys Haralson in return - and making that deal with a possible opponent in the NFC Championship game is not gonna happen...

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

Trading Lance Moore isn't a good idea what so ever. Be patient and lets see what we look like without Smith. I'm sure we'll look much better.

If SF is really trying to trade OLB Parys Haralson then Denver and New Orleans should go for it..

They definitely could use a WR but Lance Moore shouldn't be even in the realm of discussion... as it would not even be anywhere close in value. They'd likely to fork out a mid round pick plus Harrison for us to even consider moving Moore... which we shouldn't anyways.

The idea for the position swap between the two teams certainly makes sense... but I think we're overvaluing the pick necessary to facilitate a trade. We're talking about a guy that has been trending downward even before missing all of 2012... and that is their 7th LB'er on their depth chart(5th option at OLB) which essentially regulates him to special teams.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

There's NO WAY I could see us giving up Lance Moore for this guy! ??
What is everyone thinking??

He had a tricept injury last season and was out. On his return he can only make 3rd string? They expect to use him as a general backup?

Lance Moore is our hands production guy who just landed a contract last year. Only way I see a trade with him is for a starter or solid second string backup pushing a starter. There's just no way we would do that. It would be a blunder.

And who would replace our go-to hands guy? Colston is strong, but is a slow starter every season, picks up steam at the halfway mark of the season and does not have the hands Lance Moore has!

TheOak 08-26-2013 05:05 PM

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

There are plenty of scenarios for the trade, and while value vs value is how you always go into any negotiation, in the end the most needy will flinch.

"Need" comes into it at some time and this is just the situation to flush out exactly how our FO feels about our situation. If we go after him we are needy, if we sit and watch, we are fairly ok. What we give will show exactly how desperate we are or are not. The waiting game is all we as fans can do.

As you pointed out Papz SFs 6th string LB is someone else's starter.

Last Sunday I put my old BBQ pit at the road for the trash, I went back to the back yard to grab bags of clippings and by the time I was at the curb the old pit was gone.... One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

Can't disagree with any of that. I just wouldn't want us to make the mistake of overpaying for a guy just because he plays linebacker for the 49ers. When we're talking mid round value, it should be for a solid contributor. He's had one pretty good season in 2008 and has gradually declined since.

Parys Haralson Stats - San Francisco 49ers - ESPN

That doesn't look like someone that is worth mid round value... at least right now coming off a missed season.

I read a different message board post the other day and a guy picked up a BGE off the side of a road and all that was wrong with it was that it was missing a wheel and a handle. That wasn't you was it?:p

No LOL those things are quality and the important parts are either easily replaced or don't wear out. Frikken NASA ceramics.

What I discarded had the vitals rust out.

The stats are not fantastic, but I'm not sure I would be looking for a difference maker..... Enough speed and football IQ to cover what short passes Smith couldn't would be a net gain. I feel we are pretty solid or as solid as we need to be against the run for the most part.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

We're going to end up cutting receivers that could start for other teams. They're going to cut an outside linebacker that they think could start for other teams.

Seems like a pretty simple trade could be worked out.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

I'm on the "I'm-good-with-what-we-have" crew...I'm a little jaded regarding trades within the division, and that includes the OLD division. SF can't be trusted, regardless of how deep they are. The timing of this shopping of an OLB with W Smith's injury is simply bad-form by SF...it's like selling a $1 beer outside of an AA meeting then selling the next one for $50. $1 beer looks good but there's a catch and you have a need that can be exploited. I'm pretty sold with the LBs we have...they have played solidly for folks learning a new system. Have them continue to learn together and get better. Our D can be average or slightly below considering the O is being run be the REAL coach.

Re: 49er's shopping Parys Haralson

My guess is that Mickey already has a long list of guys we like who might be cut.

Then again, we may be fine rolling with the guys we have.
