God help the optimist...GAME BY GAME PREDICTION

ATL ---- 1-0, Tough win, as their O-line not good enough
@TB --- 2-0, Payton will not let there be any hangover
AZ ----- 3-0, Wierd team. Despite all the talent, rudderless
MI ----- 4-0, Monday night, prime time, grind
@CH -- 5-0, Bears going backwards
@NE -- 6-0, Gronkless, Welkerless, O-lineless, porous defense
BU ---- 7-0, UNdrafted rookie qb, injuries
@NYJ - 8-0, NFL scheduled this game to let Rob drop the hammer on his Bro
D ------ 9-0, Payback Jerry, payback
SF ----- 9-1, 1st hiccup.
@ATL - 9-2, Can't expect to win, NFL needs GA to not secede from US
@SEA - 9-3, If we can't beat a team with a losing record there, we won't beat one with a winning one
CAR --- 10-3, seals playoff berth
@STL - 11-3, Fisher mailing it in. Looking for playoff positioning
@CAR - 11-4, We always have trouble with them in december
TB ----- 12-4, This win secures bye

There you have it. I am truly ashamed for the rampant and unrepentant optimism.

Flame if you must. You all must have different opinions.

I see it like this too. When we go on that 3 game skid they'll start to write us off. But then comes the playoffs...

Not that I disagree, you are just not optimistic.

We always lose a couple that we should win and win a couple we should lose. Predi ting them is nearly impossible. But it wouldn't shock me to see us beat SF and Seattle, but lose to Arizona and ST Louis.
Basically I'm calling 11-5, but don't know which five we lose.

You lost me at the SF game. We have to beat SF.

1. It's our turn.
2. We are playing at home.
3. 49ers fans must suffer.

I'll take a stab

ATL - Pft, we own the Falcons. 1-0
@TB - This team is not very good. 2-0
AZ - Should win this one fairly easily. 3-0
MI - Saints always bring it in prime time. 4-0
@CH - Remember the last time we play this team? Sack city. 5-0
@NE - Time for some humble pie. 5-1
BU - Good team for a rebound game. 6-1.
@NYJ - LOLOLOL. 7-1.
D - This could be a tough one. I'll say a close loss. 7-2.
SF - Another tough one, but it's at home and there is a score to settle. 8-2.
@ATL - The sweep is on. 9-2.
@SEA - Tough place to play. Close loss in a low-scoring game. 9-3.
CAR - Piece-a-cake. 10-3
@STL - I see a weird loss here. 10-4.
@CAR - This team is not half as good as people think. 11-4.
TB - Division in hand, rest starters, still win. 12-4.

Some of you guys are rediculous. Nothing about this defense shows me that they have improved enough to get one or two more wins. 80% Of our defensive roster probably wouldnt even make most teams final 53. Pair that with a brutal schedule and I see9-7 10-6 At best.

How did we win 13 games in 2011 with less talent than we have now?

Re: God help the optimist...GAME BY GAME PREDICTION

I don't see regression. Injuries are stifling the defensive development & that is a concern.

10-6 very doable
12-4 possible but unlikely.

Like it's been said, we're gonna lose the "gimme's" and win the ones folks say we can't/won't win. Hate predicting a record, but we'll win more than we lose. The D will get shredded the first half of the year, but the O will be clicking. Special Teams will be the downfall in losing a "gimme" game and at least one division game (Thank you, Greg McMahon, you twerp). Pretty optimistic overall, but as long as McMahon remains the Chief Idiot in Charge of ST, we will not be as good as we could be.

Re: God help the optimist...GAME BY GAME PREDICTION

There were a heck of a lot of smoke and mirrors with that '09 defense. Just sayin'. A lot of flames and turning cranks behind the curtains, off camera Wizard of Oz type stuff was going on. Even the whole bounty talk was kind of phony and fake, from the get-go. People were skeered of us, skeered of that defense, but other than Sharper, was it really that skeery? And that defense got us to 13-3. The later ones were even worse.

Totally different year, team, coordinator, schedule, etc etc. Anything could happen but I doubt it. We dont have much more talent on D anyway.

What are you smoking?

We have loads more talent than we had then; Hicks, Jordan is getting closer to his peak potential, Jenkins, Vaccaro, Lewis, Lofton, Hawthorne, Humber, and that's just right off the top of my head

My deciding factor in each game is who has the better coach , QB and secondary ... Formula has never steered me wrong ... There are no games on this schedule that we don't favor those 3 things by 2-1 ... If our defense plays lights out this year , were winning the Lombardi ... I don't see many teams out gunning us ...

It's abt time someone shuts up Mercury Morris and keeps his champagne corked!!!! We're gonna break the '72 Dolphins' record with our own no-name defense :)

This is the kind of junk I would expect to hear from fans of other teams who just look at statistics and are like "oh they had a bad defense last year, must have no talent." That is so far from the truth it's laughable. Do you honestly think Jordan, Hicks, Greer, Vacarro, Lofton, Hawthorne, Bunkley wouldn't even make another team's 53 man roster? That is ludicrous talk.

DL - We've got two of the best young defensive linemen in football in Hicks and Jordan. One of the league's top nose tackles in Bunkley. Young depth in Jenkins/Foster/Walker and some solid vets with Johnson and Richardson.

LB - Don't get me wrong, there are some weaknesses and some unknowns. But Lofton, Hawthorne, Vilma and Haralson are all solid, dependable players and you can expect a reasonably high level of play from them. We've seen Galette and Wilson excel as pass rushers in part-time roles. enough that we know they can contribute and won't be a liability. Humber has always had great talent, now starting to put it together.

DB - Worst part of the defense, maybe. But we've got three solid man-to-man corners in Greer/Lewis/Robinson, a great-looking young safety in Vaccaro, and even Jenkins and Harper despite their sometimes struggles both have the ability to play well in a defense geared toward their strengths (ie an aggressive, blitzing style).

I am not saying they are elite, but somewhere in the 15-20 range this year should be just about right, and with all the youth and inexperience there is a lot of room to get better in a hurry. The future of this defense is with guys like Jordan, Hicks, Vaccaro, Hawthorne, Galette, Wilson, etc and that is a great place to be.

I'm afraid that we lose the first game to Atlanta with our new defense. After that it's anybodys guess.

Re: God help the optimist...GAME BY GAME PREDICTION

You know sometimes you win for a reason. Remember that game. That game against the Falcons. The rebirth. The blocked punt. We won for a reason. And I think we actually may give Atlanta a hiding for the same reason. We are owed one. God owes us one! :)

Beyond that, I think we start at 4-0 but slip on the road to both Bears and Patriots. That's 4-2. We bounce back with 4 straight wins, finally beating ScumFran which we are also due (note I was at playoff game and home game last season. Also at home game this season. You wanna know someone who deserves some bloody redemption???? ME!!!).

Sitting pretty at 8-2, all the talk of NFC #1 seed crashes back to reality with 2 big losses to Falcons and Seahawks on the road. At 8-4, it's a big finish.Panthers at home sends us 9-4. Rams on road sends us 9-5 with a loss. 2 big wins finishes the season nicely with an 11-5 record, good enough to win the division on a tiebreaker and put us at #2 seed.

I've seen it in my crystal ball!

As an aside, 5 of the last 6 games I have gone to America for, the Saints have lost. I suck. It's about time my luck changes or I am turned back at Border Patrol!! :)

By your logic then since the Falcons have added Steven Jackson on offense they should have a more prolific offense than last year and pick up right where they left off.

Nope, their talent additions do not outweigh their subtractions, especially on the O-line and defense. They should be a slightly worse off team than last year's.

We, on the other hand, have way more additions than subtractions. If you can't see that you aren't paying attention. If you are paying attention yet still disagree, then nothing will convince you otherwise.

Here's a little reminder...
Mitch King, Turk McBride, Sed Ellis, Johnny Patrick, Tracy Porter, Leigh Torrence, Jonathan Amaya, Scott Shanle, Shaun Rogers, Abreyo Franklin and Jeff Charleston.

I'm of the opinion that we significantly upgraded all of those guys.

There's too much smokescreens this preseason by teams. For one the bears defense is playing as good as ever without Lovie and Urlacher? Not buying it. Cam is struggling in preseason? Not buying it. And I'm not buying either the falcons vanilla offense in the preseason.........

Yes it pains me as well to say Atlanta is dangerous but they are and they are a threat to win it all, that game is a must win or we are going to have problems. And also it doesnt help knowing that the AFC's big three all have flaws. NE is hated, Manning always falls short, and Houston has never been there and has a QB that isnt better than any NFC one that plays him. God help us if Pittsburgh backs into it again.

All offense in preseason is vanilla, so was ours and Atlanta has no o-line due to injury. Did the fake the sacks they allowed?

In a weird way I think Spags had alot to do with our terrible season last year. It was said he took ZERO input from players and played very conservative. We get out edge back this year I think.....12-4 or 11-5

Saints are playing with a chip on their shoulder this year, and we have some 2nd year players that don't know what it's like to play with Payton on the sidelines. If I were the other team, I'd hate to be lining up against us this year.
