Judge still needs to OK $765M deal

PHILADELPHIA -- A federal judge says the NFL and more than 4,500 former players want to settle concussion-related lawsuits for $765 million.

The global settlement would fund medical exams, concussion-related compensation and medical research.

The plaintiffs include at least 10 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including former Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Dorsett. They also include Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jim McMahon and the family of Pro Bowl linebacker Junior Seau, who committed suicide last year.

The lawsuits accuse the league of hiding known risks of concussions for decades to return players to games and protect its image. The NFL has denied any wrongdoing.

Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody in Philadelphia announced the proposed settlement Thursday. She still needs to approve the deal, which comes after months of court-ordered mediation.

Wish this would have happened before the "bounty" scandal. We might have got a slap on the wrist like other clubs which ACTUALLY cheated.

Doubt that; remember Roger was furious he felt he was lied to... Regardless what evidence was found, Roger has too big of an ego to allow a slap on the wrist.

Seems Payton has always been a thorn in his side and he finally made an offseason scandal stick...

Roger was going to GET Sean, come hell or high water. Nothing else mattered. Not even this.

Closer to $100k after lawyers fees "if" it was a cash award, and if it was punitive then it is taxed as income.

"According to the agreement, NFL and NFL Properties will contribute $765 million to provide medical benefits and injury compensation for retired players, fund medical and safety research and cover litigation expenses."

They will get a small pay out and benefits.

According to Kevin Mawae (Former player as you know and LEESVILLE, LA product!) the NFL projects 2025 revenue at 27 BILLION.

Roger is dancing in his office right now...has been all day.

Guys they are paying this out little by little. Each team pays something lime 1.2 million a year.

Over the life of the 700+ million the NFL. Is expected to make 10's of BILLIONS. The league & the teams are getting off cheaply.

WELL GOOD! The last thing I want is the NFL to lose money. Because guess what? My tickets would go up. Or they might start moving again. Or charge PSL's.

That math doesn't add up for me.

$765,000,000/4500 players = $170,000

That looks like a very low number to me. I think the NFL dodged a bullet here.

There should be criminal charges if Rodger knew...

Karma is a B***H, Rodge...

And they're (League) getting off cheap...

NFL is a hard, tough, body punishing sport. That is whay one is paid some big bucks and it is not a job/career than one can have until 65, well, even 30 .
It is not a right , but a choice, to be on an NFL team. I think it is a good luck choice if it comes your way.

There is no doubt that many guys stayed on in the NFl too long or played hurt and did not say they were, et.c
What I do not understand and I have sympathy for those who are really hurt, but how will the NFL prove who is really hurt or not. Seems to me this is a way that guys can run crazy through crazy , big money in their 20's on bad investments, crazy living and then , after an NFL career, say they are really hurt.

If I'm working a job - a job I KNOW is dangerous, that is my choice.

HOWEVER...

If my employer lies to me about the danger - well, you get where I'm going.

Oh he knew - his every action since he took the job is evidence that he knew.

Still, PROVING it legally - proving that playing is actually what hurt those men and that Roger KNEW it...I mean proving that scientifically...legally...that's a bird of a different feather of course.

And I guess the players lawyers knew that too which is maybe why they settled. I don't know. An awfully low number as someone else here said...
