Trade Candidates

This will be one of the most talented rosters in Saints History...

It's actually easier to point to the roster's flaws as there seem to be so few...

Now some of the salary cap commitments will dictate players on the roster that otherwise wouldn't make the team...

See two positions that are still of concern...

Outside Linebacker

The now projected Week 1 tandem of Galette and Wilson have yet to play together...

The Parys Haralson was a good trade in a position we should never have been...

But we still don't have that proven pass rushing linebacker and Martez Wilson would be better suited as a Will/Inside Linebacker (i.e. Vaughn Johnson type)

Rufus, whom I like as well as his story, but why draft a 43 DE when moving to a 34 front?!?

There are two players that could add depth to what could be a good rotation...

Kamerion Wimbley who signed with Tennessee from Oakland and was miscast as a DE when he is clearly an Outside Linebacker; the Titans are desperate for Wide Receivers and we've got plenty of that...

Dontay Moch is another square peg in a round hole situation; scouted as a (Correction) 34 OLB, the Bengals have tried to make a 43 OLB which are very different traits; he could easily rejuvenate his career in New Orleans...

Another concern has to be with the Offensive Tackle positions...

Daily Media Observers have posted the unlikelihood of Marcel Jones making the team; that leaves Brown/Armstead opposite Strief/Harris...

Strief seems healthy and able and Harris looks that he can develop into a quality Tackle...

On the other side, Armstead is struggling adjusting to the speed of the game and just needs to put it together; but having the well documented health history of Brown at Left Tackle, well, I'm just a simple fan and like Coach, it can keep you up at night...

Think the Saints may have to consider when setting their 53 man roster, they may have to have some wiggle room to acquire some depth for the OT position...

Unfortunately, several teams seem to have lost their Tackles for the season already, so losing Brown a couple of weeks into the season after all other options may have been scooped up could prove costly...

You are exactly right in comparing Tez and Vaughn Johnson, he reminds me of him to a tee. I wish they would move him inside, he could do damage for years. We would be flexible with that one move alone.

His athleticism, don't remember the actual numbers; but he did very well at the Combine.

So if he has not worked out as a 3-4 OLB, why trade for him to do the exact same thing?

Mitch, my mistake they've tried to make him a 43 OLB...

He had the rookie injury and he was suspended for PED last season...

We may not have to give up much to acquire him...

I admit, I don't know much about Moch. He does have 90 speed and 64 strength in this years Madden though.

You know sometimes I really wonder if Vitt knows how to put the lb.'s in their natural positions or try to put a sqare peg in a round hole, borrowed that saying from ya!! He might be the problem. If we get pi$$ poor play out of these guys this season he should go!!

I am so F'ing happy that you said that. I've been debating for a while now whether or not I should post a topic about how Joe Vitt is a terrible LB coach because I figured I'd get so criticized.

He might be well respected around the league but he has not got us results in years. If he don't get it done this year bring in someone who can. I also wonder if Del Rio was passed up on because he wanted to bring in a lb. coach and that's how we ended up with Spags. I have no proof but it's a thought. We hired a 3-4 guy with Ryan.

Careful fellas, you may be accused of not being real Saints fans if you construct an argument, presenting valid points and offer a criticism ...

But, we seem to turn away alot of rookie linebackers...

Re: Trade Candidates

Do we really have anyone that would allow us to get a serious defensive player? Doubtful. Have to watch & see who is released.

We may be shopping Ingram. This is the trade I would like to see done.

I think we are shopping Ingram but the rumors are NY and PIT being the top contenders. However, what OLBs can those teams offer us? If some type of trade is in the works it needs to happen quickly, there isn't much time left before ATL.

We do not want to trade before Atl. Zif it is for a veteran.

If we do it after Atl their salary isn't guaranteed if something happens....

I think Parys Haralson could be that guy.

Malcolm Jenkins could be trade bait, some other team might give us something for him, he has someone fooled here thinking he's a FS he could fool them there. I'll trade him for a bag of peanuts and a coke, although I may be asking to way much!!

We'll at some point more than likely will see him inside some this year. In one of the many Ryan formations, he loves to move players around, so you can't tell where the pressure is coming from.

I agree, I like the thought of a qb. always have to figure out when he would come from the middle. I feel he could lock down on one of the ILB spots for many years. I just wish it would be now.

Offense alone makes us more talented every year. I still fail to see all the talent on defense everyone is talking about. Jordan and Hicks will be very good players in this league. I see everyone else as average with a few like Lofton and Lewis slightly above average. LB corps is scary thin and a defensive backs leave a little to be desired. I have high hopes for Vaccaro, but I havent seen anything from him in real game time yet. Galette and Wilson are good as a tandem but neither an every down player. We lose one or the other and we are going to have problems.

Me too. He is the only one I can think of we can afford to lose that we could get some value for. I feel if we wait until this offseason we will wind up having to give him away for a stick of juicy fruit.

Dude, while I don't disagree with the point of your post regarding the talent drop off on defense - don't sell these guys short...

Cam Jordan is moving back to a more familiar alignment which he excelled...

Akiem Hicks looks to be a great complement on the other side and should be cap friendly (not necessarily a discount) for years to come...

And Glenn Foster looks to be another surprise found in the UDFA pool of players...

Big John Jenkins is gonna learn from an already respected, established nose tackle in Brodrick Bunkley...

By all reports, we have an excellent acquisition in Keenan Lewis and Jabari Greer who's been a great corner for us (when healthy) is now leading, teaching three other talented backs in Patrick Robinson, Corey White and Rod Sweeting whom just have to learn to put it together...

Though I'm still miffed for not drafting Alec Ogletree who offered more value, by what we've seen Kenny Vaccaro should more than prove his value as a first round pick which we haven't had the best success in these past years...

The pessimism, concern comes from the void at outside linebacker and the misguided plan for that conversion to be lead Will Smith which even amateur fans could see was simply not going to work...

There are chinks in the armour, no doubt, but the groundwork has been laid to turn this thing around in so far as talent is concerned...

Has any team ever successfully bartered fans for players? We have some fans on the bubble we don't need, but could use some depth on the field.

I'm not sure why some of the posters here feel it necessary to belittle and judge other people's opinions.
Please don't turn this site into that other site.

The season is finally here. Let's enjoy it.
