I doubt it. But I don't mind us trying to develop him...boy would Bridgewater be nice...

I doubt it too, but its not outside the realm of possibility.
I would like to see us get Johnny Football. Screw this "not a Payton player" bull****. I know Payton likes the good boys who eat all their vegetables, but this kid is young and just doing the kind of thing college kids do. Plus as long as his "problems" don't translate onto the field I could care less if he ran around Bourbon street naked with a rubber glove on his head screaming "HI I"M A SQUID! HI IM A SQUID!"

Won't be Griffin, from the way I've seen Payton work he will probably be an UDFA with great mechanics, work ethic, smart as ****; from a small school no one has heard of.

What?!?

Griffin is an UDFA with great mechanics, work ethic, is smart and Tulane is not real popular outside this region...

Griffin hasn't had any talent around him though Curtis Johnson will remedy that situation at Tulane; by the way Joe Montana's kid is now quarterback at Tulane - what does that tell you about the Coach Payton's coaching tree reputation?!?

Only knock is Griffin's arm strength; and that will improve - just hope no one claims him off our ps...

My only knock against Griffin is timing. Baring catastrophic injury Drew Brees will be in a Saints uniform for at least 4 more years. In 4 years Griffin will either not make it off the practice squad and be let go, or if he becomes starting material become our BU and get taken by another team like Chase.

It's all about timing and opportunity.

Don't what me! LOL :)

His problems have already translated onto the field. He was suspended for the first half of the Rice game and then had to be benched in the fourth quarter for being a jerk. I don't want to see "johnny football" in Black and Gold.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

Griffin will be the backup next year and possibly 2015 but after that someone will pick him up just like KC did with Daniel. 2016 we will probably sign Drew's replacement who will take over in 2018.

Jerks make the best athletes.

A drama filled, egocentric, loose cannon is exactly what we do not need for a QB and leader of this team. ESPECIALLY when contract time comes up.

Draft him for your FF team, I don't care to ever see him in B&G.

I don't think he'll be good in the NFL. His attitude doesn't bother me though. I like it. You know me, I've got no issues with all that stuff. If I thought he'd be good I'd love to see us draft him. But I don't believe in him as a NFL QB yet. I like Tahj Boyd. I love Bridgewater. I like Aaron Murray. Manziel is a gamble as far as skill set.

Oak! Jairus Byrd is demanding a trade! The Malcolm Jenkins experiment can finally end!

With a $7M base salary? We are lacking about 1M in cap space. Plus cutting Jenkins comes at a 1.6M dead money cap hit effectively giving us -$2.6M in our pocket

We can't work out a new deal for him to sign after the trade to relieve the cap issue? His contact was a franchise tender.

he's not healthy dealing with plantar fasciitis, same thing that keeps Colston sidelined from time to time. Don't need that in a DB.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

Griffin's got potential down the road. Cant deny Luke M.'s preseason play, I was somewhat impressed. He should definitely be #2.

Drew will be around a bit barring massive injury so no point worrying about the future at the moment.

FYI those of you bringing up Johnny football need help.

He's a top 10 FS when healthy. We do need that in a DB! We're not trying to get rid of Colston with his injury problems. Anything is better then what we have. Jairus Byrd is a playmaker. I've been following him since he came into the league. He's Sharper-esque.

There is that T word. Flip the script, your Buffalo, what do you "want" in trade?

I don't think straight up trade will float.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

Id love him but I dont think the csp space could even be made when he is a FA next year unlesd a big earner could be traded.
I dont see Drews contract being renegotiated till the season after and a few players contracts are up and Jimmy needs a new deal.Id rather pick up some younger cheaper talent in the draft like Ladler, Clinton-Dix and Reynolds.

i like what i saw out of him in the preseason myself.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

I actually like him better than I liked Chase. Chase sometimes looked a little too "Alex Smithy" back there for my tastes, throwing wobblers or taking off running like a deer in the headlights when he got panicked. This kid, when he's in there it looks like a Brees/Payton offense, the plays look the same, the players and formations look the same, the motions look the same...still like McCown better right now but no question Griffin has upside and a bit of the intangible "it" for the future.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

Griffin will be fun to watch grow. Although with Drews attitude about never letting your back up see the field we may have to wait until next years pre season games.
Edit: if he were our back up.:dunce:

RG won't be a Saint for the next 5 years waiting for Drew to retire.

Drew's successor is probably still in High School.

Drew's successor is Famous Jameis Winston. Lol.

I agree with Oak. No way this kid is around when Drew is ready to retire.

Re: Could Ryan Griffin be the future for the Saints?

I feel the only reason we really think about the future QB is because of Atlanta fans' fear tactics. We still have three-four years left of Brees, and how do we even know Ryan will still be good in his 30s?
