How are the AZ DB's doing as far as passes defended? It seems that they aren't getting the sacks or the pressure, so are they forcing coverage incompletes?

Yes, they held Stafford (DET) to under 300yds passing and they get the job done ... don't give up too much deep stuff & will let you dink/dunk 'em on the short routes all day long. Peterson (ARI) looked good against Johnson (DET) despite Johnson's two TD outing. Matthieu/honeybadger (ARI) made a couple key plays as well. They have good special teams.

It was home vs a Lions team that hasn't won in Arizona since the early/mid '90s, so take it for what it's worth, but the Lions did have all their primary weapons in Johnson/Burleson/Pettigrew/Bush/Bell.

If this game wasn't in the Dome, I might have been inclined to pick ARI just because they way the Saints offense has been the first two weeks. However, I'm counting on a little 'home-cooking' to get Drew & the boys motivated and back-on-track..

The honey badger don't care if the honey badger doesn't want to be called the honey badger no more.

On the other hand, when special teams and Hartley wins one with a FG on the last play...minor (at best) applause.

It doesn't go unnoticed that Brees, Graham, Sproles, and Colston got the field position, but so many things could have gone wrong (as in the past) with that final FG.

Know how difficult it is to miss a 27 yard FG? :) That is a kick from the 17 yard line... High School kickers make that ever day, a 16 yo firld goal kicker from po-dunk Louisiana could have made that kick.

Patrick Peterson is now the best cornerback in the league; with the exception of a coverage exchange in traffic, he handled Calvin Johnson, the best Wide Receiver not a Saint in the NFL, and maybe the best in the last twenty years, one on one...

I'd say they've got an excellent secondary with that alone; but Peterson is not alone...

And they've got a very good front seven; they'd be a top three defense if they had an offense that could (wait for it) run the ball...

Re: Week 3 Saints vs Cardinals

Teams with a Patrick Peterson, one Durrell Revis, One any great player in the league are extremely dangerous against most teams... Most teams have 1 great receiver.

No one Hall of Fame D-Back can cover both Graham and Colston at the same time. So my lack of fear will have to be forgiven.

Patrick Peterson is certainly up there but the honors of being the best cornerback in the league goes to Richard Sherman(1a) and Joe Haden(1b). Calvin Johnson had 6 catches for 116 and 2 scores last week. No matter how you slice it, that's not handling. No one handles Megatron.

Yep, and I have seen a botched snap, a hold gone wrong, and a kicker with the YIPS, a missed block, miss from a shorter distance...extra point. All in the NFL. :)

Graham was going deep with his back turned, Pierre runs to the middle of the field and claps his hands ("I'm open!") but then Brees throws it to a spot where NO ONE is, that is almost precisely between the two of them. You're right, it's bizarre..

I wonder why Brees did not look. The "no look' touchdown pass is over-rated

@MikeTriplett: RT @joshweinfuss: WR Larry Fitzgerald, LB Kevin Minter and RB Rashard Mendenhall sat out the open portion of #AZCardinals practice again to.

@MikeTriplett: RT @joshweinfuss: Fitzgerald worked with the hands team during a few onside kicks at the start of practice then went outside to do some lig.

@MikeTriplett: RT @joshweinfuss: 1 change to Cards' injury report: LB Alexander (biceps) upgraded to full. Fitzgerald, Mendenhall, Minter all DNP. Housler.

Google "Jimmy Graham" right now and the top return is on the Arizona Cardinals' Forum boards.

They are terrified of the shredding they may get.

I just hope that Brees recognizes the mismatches and gets the ball to the right man. 4 int's is not going to get the job done. We had the same situation a few years back and threw up all over ourselves.

Re: Week 3 Saints vs Cardinals

Cardinals have one of the higher pass completions on Defense with 51 of 74 attempts. Rated at #21 in pass 68.9% of passes have been caught.
Im not to worried about passing against them, and think we have to pass all day to win.

Problem is Arizona is one of the best Run defenses in the NFL, Ranked #2. Allowing 0 TD's, 116 yards rushing on 44 attemps, 2.6 Y/A, and 58 yards per a game. Bucs were Ranked #11, and we could not make much of a dent.

This is definatly a team you want to test your run game against, but not a team you should devote 25-40 plays to, on offense, running as a game plan.
I fear if SP forces the run in this game it will cost the team 3rd downs, and keep the cardinals close enouph to win it.

dueceloose 09-21-2013 01:14 PM

Re: Week 3 Saints vs Cardinals

Ari may be ranked high on run but Bush went off on them in a Sproles type of duty. I think we can do well running if we run off the pass and not the other way around like we've tried to do. Adding in the screens and etc..

pherein 09-21-2013 02:07 PM

Re: Week 3 Saints vs Cardinals

yeah true RB 3 for 44 yards recieving. Sproles can do that. Hope he doesnt do the 1 fumble and 9 for 25 yards rushing that RB had, lol.
Plus you consider the Lions had a pick 6 for 7pts and only made 14pts on offense, Id say that defense is pretty solid in the box.

Absolutely, Scott can hold the edge with his speed.

Seriously, I have a feeling our offense will get going this week. I have a feeling that the O-line probably had their ass chewed after last week. This is the week our O gets going, but every game is tough and this one will be too. Just get the W!

He definitely made some bad decisions last game, but I am not so sure the Oline has helped the matter. Get the frigan guy some blocking and give him some time and I think you'll see a different result. He's about to get on a roll. I hope it starts today
